Whats the saying? "All growth starts at the end of your comfort zone." That quote is absolutely true and that's exactly what we did today, we made up and coming firefighters and current ones uncomfortable today. Straughn Fire Department and Lewisville/Franklin Township Fire Dept. went through an assortment of confined and tight spaces together, focusing on rescue of a downed firefighter and best practices to move a downed firefighter through those obstacles. After multiple rotations of these drills firefighters then went through several obstacle courses that involved dropping down through a tight gap, crawling/tripoding on uneven and slick surfaces, navigating through the dark and crawling through a corrugated drainage pipe. All of these tasks were done in full gear and on air, you perform how you train and you train how you want to perform. We are thankful to have working partners that want to better themselves just as we do to better SERVE YOU when the call arises. We are blessed to serve Straughn, Dudley township, and all who call on us in their time of need.

Over the weekend Straughn fire, Lewisville/Franklin Township Fire Dept. and some surprise guests came together to train on extrication. Due to the amount of new members on both departments the extrication training was a learning curve of how to use and take care of the tools and simple door pops, and dash rolling. All attendees learned something new with minivans, they are TOUGH. Thankyou to Davis Towing & Recovery, Inc. in Spiceland for the donation of the van and allowing us to use their lot as the training ground.

Sunday at 7:46 in the morning Straughn was dispatched to a vehicle in a home. Upon arrival it was noted there was 2 trucks involved in the incident. Upon further investigation it was determined a truck headed east bound hit another truck that was parked and unoccupied and ran it into a tree and continued into a residence. Members ensured there was still structural integrity of the building before the vehicle was removed. Luckily no one was hurt during this incident. The driver was checked out by New Castle-Henry County Emergency Medical Services and was cleared and healthy. Also thankyou to Lewisville/Franklin Township Fire Dept. We are blessed to serve Dudley township and all who call upon us for help.

Today is International Firefighter day, today is a day we celebrate the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of every firefighter out there. Our members are blessed to serve and dedicated to Straughn Dudley township and everyone we come in contact with.
