📸 Throwback Thursday!

Today, we’re looking back at the positive conversations led by Kannette King, Ashley Conyers and the Justice GA Coalition during the Civic Engagement Innovation Challenge at the Statewide Youth Symposium with Georgia Forward! 💬✨

Through conversations about bullying prevention and civic engagement, youth explored how their voices, ideas, and actions can help create safer, more welcoming schools and communities.

As we recognize Anti-Bullying Month this October, we’re carrying that message forward: speak up, support one another, and be part of the solution. Civic engagement starts with recognizing that each of us has a role in making our communities better. 🧡

Thank you to Kannette King, the Justice GA Coalition, and Georgia Forward for encouraging youth to turn meaningful conversations into positive action!

October is Youth Awareness Month in Statesboro, and Week 3 focuses on Health, Hope & Healing!

As we continue celebrating our community’s Youth Awareness Month proclamation, the Statesboro Youth Council encourages everyone to support our young people's well-being. Preparing youth to lead also means giving them space to talk, trusted people to listen, and encouragement to seek support when life feels overwhelming.

This week, we challenge you to check in with a young person. Ask how they are really doing, listen without judgment, and remind them that they matter. Encourage healthy habits, make time for connection, and help them identify a trusted adult they can turn to.

For our youth: Your feelings matter. Your health matters. Your future matters. Asking for help is a sign of strength, and you do not have to navigate challenges alone.

Together, we can build a community where hope grows, healing is supported, and every young person feels seen and valued.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month! The Statesboro Youth Council encourages everyone to lead with kindness, speak up when someone needs support, and help create spaces where every young person feels safe, valued, and heard.

Preventing bullying takes all of us: youth, families, educators, and community members. Include someone who feels left out, tell a trusted adult when you see or experience bullying, and be intentional about what you post and share online.

Together, we can make kindness part of how we lead every day!

October has officially been declared Youth Awareness Month in Statesboro, and today we’re kicking off Week 2: “Youth Leading the Movement!”

All week long, we’re celebrating young people who are stepping up, serving others, and making a difference. Leadership can look like organizing a project, encouraging a classmate, helping at church, mentoring a younger student, speaking up for others, or seeing a need and taking action. Every act of leadership matters!

MONDAY MEMORY: Earlier this month, our Statesboro Youth Council took the lead at the Youth Symposium by facilitating “Mindful Minds,” a youth-led, peer-to-peer session exploring how to lead from the inside out. We are proud to celebrate our youth creating space for their peers to learn and grow while putting their own leadership into practice!

YOUR CHALLENGE THIS WEEK: Help us recognize youth leading throughout our community! Share a photo, story, or shout-out celebrating a young person or youth group taking the lead in any way. Tell us what they’re doing and why it matters, tag Statesboro Youth Council, and use . Then invite someone else to do the same!

Let’s fill this week with encouragement and recognition. When you see a young person leading, name it, celebrate it, and help them keep growing!

Their voices. Their vision. Their impact!

Today, the Statesboro Youth Council stood before our Mayor and City Council to receive the proclamation officially recognizing October as Youth Awareness Month! 💙

Our young leaders spent hours researching and developing this proclamation, turning their passion into a call for our community to listen, engage, and invest in its youth.

What a meaningful way to recognize Youth Justice Action Month (YJAM) and carry the momentum of this past weekend’s Youth Symposium forward! From conversations with leaders across Georgia to recognition right here at home, our youth are showing what it means to lead with purpose.

Thank you to Mayor Jonathan McCollar and the Statesboro City Council for honoring this work and affirming that youth voices belong in the decisions shaping our community.

Statesboro, let’s celebrate them and keep making room for them to lead! 👏🏽

🔥 DAY 1: WE CAME. WE CONNECTED. WE PLUGGED IN.

What a way to kick off the Youth Symposium!

Youth from across the State of Georgia. ONE powerful room filled with voices, ideas, connection, and purpose.

Tonight, THE PLUG did exactly what it was created to do! Youth and community leaders plugged into real conversations about the issues impacting their communities, while councils from across Georgia linked up, exchanged ideas, built relationships, and challenged one another to move their communities FORWARD. 💡🎤

And we’re just getting started!

⚡ DAY 2 IS COMING! ⚡
Tomorrow, our youth are diving into powerful, hands-on learning sessions designed to challenge their thinking, strengthen their leadership, and give them tools they can take right back home.

And then next... 👀

ULTIMATE NEON GAME NIGHT

The lights go down.
The neon comes ON.
The competition gets REAL.
And one council is taking home the GAME NIGHT TROPHY! 🏆

Day 1 was about getting PLUGGED IN.
Day 2 is about getting POWERED UP.⚡

Georgia’s youth are not waiting for the future…
