The Button We operate with the Bulloch Co Schools to receive individual hygiene request from students through a weblink found within the school website.

Biannually large hygiene bags are made&given to students of greatest need as determined by school counselors. The Button is a 501-c3 corporation operating collaboratively with the Bulloch County School System to receive individual hygiene request from students through the use of a weblink found within the school website. Also, twice a year larger hygiene bags are made for students of greatest need

as determined by school counselors. The Button is currently active in all the middle and high schools
with plans to include the elementary this fall. Since beginning in March 2022 there have been 4,084 personal request made by students and over 95,000 hygiene items have been given out by The Button. One of the biggest factors toward the success of The Button is that the kids are able to keep their dignity. The students remain totally anonymous throughout this process, being solely identified by their lunch number. To ensure the student’s dignity the process of delivery is equally important. For this reason, each filled request is delivered in an unmarked bag, including 2 mints and a note that reads, “Thanks for making your request. Hope we were able to help brighten your day.”

The bags are delivered to the front office of the school where an adult sends a private message to that student’s 5th or 6th period teacher. It is very important that no attention be directed toward the student regarding their need, especially in front of their peers. The Button is currently active in the following locations:
William James Middle School
Portal Middle High School
Transitional Learning Center
Statesboro High School
Southeast Bulloch High School
Southeast Bulloch Middle
Social Workers within Bulloch County Board of Education. Additional schools will be added as we continue to receive donations and grow.

Hygiene poverty is not having reliable access to basic personal hygiene products.

For a student, it can mean going without shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, lotion, menstrual products, laundry detergent—or another everyday necessity many of us rarely think twice about.

The need is often invisible because students may feel embarrassed to tell someone what they are missing. Through The Button, Bulloch County students can discreetly request the items they need and receive them at school.

Basic hygiene products should never be a barrier to a student’s health, dignity, confidence, or ability to learn.

The need may be invisible—but it is real.

Bulloch County students can privately request FREE personal hygiene products—including soap, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, lotion and more.

🔹 Middle and high school students can find The Button in ClassLink.
🔹 Students at Sallie Zetterower Elementary and Langston Chapel Elementary can also access The Button through ClassLink.
🔹 Students at all other elementary schools may contact their school counselor for assistance.
🔹 Select the items you need.
🔹 Your order is discreetly delivered to your school in a plain bag labeled only with your lunch number.

What a productive morning at The Button! 💙

A huge thank-you to our three wonderful volunteers—one from the Statesboro Service League and two Georgia Southern University nursing students!

Together, we filled and delivered tons of individual hygiene requests to students at nearly every school in the Bulloch County School System. We are incredibly grateful for volunteers who give their time to help students feel clean, confident, and ready to learn.

Today, we packed and delivered:

🎒 70 “First Day Bags” for Head Start
🧼 20 general hygiene bags for Portal Middle High School
💛 24 individual student requests from Southeast Bulloch High, Southeast Bulloch Middle, Sallie Z Elementary, Statesboro High, William James Middle, Langston Chapel Middle, and Portal Middle High

That’s 114 bags and requests filled in one day! Because of our amazing volunteers, local students are starting the school year with the essentials they need—and the reminder that their community cares.

💙 FACT #8 OF 10 | Did You Know?

The Button operates according to the school calendar.

That means we are available to support Bulloch County students while school is in session, providing confidential access to personal hygiene products through their schools.

When summer break begins and students are out of school, The Button closes and prepares for the next school year.

This schedule allows us to stay focused on serving students where they are—at school—with dignity, confidentiality, and care.
