State Center Development Association Many original fixtures remain, offering a glimpse into life in the town from 1895 until the store closed in the 1980s.

The State Center Development Association supports local businesses and economic growth while revitalizing and preserving our historic downtown as a proud Main Street America community. State Center takes pride in its rich history, reflected in the community's efforts to preserve Watsonโ€™s Grocery Store, a turn-of-the-century grocery and dry goods store. To revitalize downtown and prevent economic d

ecline, the town supported the "Main Street Program." As a result, the downtown area has flourished. In 2003, just before the 45th annual Rose Parade, State Center's Main Street received a complete makeover, including new sidewalks, lighting, and street resurfacing.

This month, the State Center Development Association is excited to highlight Jacobson Portrait Studio, located at 124 West Main Street right here in State Center.

In this interview, we chat with owner Kane Jacobson to learn more about how he got started in the photography business, what brought Jacobson Portrait Studio to State Center, and what he enjoys about owning a business in the community.

Kane also talks about the photography services he offers, the importance of supporting local businesses, what makes him proud, and a few things coming up that he is looking forward to.

Fourth of July is just around the corner, and we'd love to see our community show off its patriotic spirit! This year is extra special as we celebrate America's 250th birthday, making it the perfect time to deck out our homes, businesses, and Main Street in red, white, and blue. Whether it's flags, wreaths, banners, lights, or a full yard display, every decoration helps make State Center look festive and welcoming.

As you're decorating, we encourage you to leave your decorations up through RAGBRAI! Thousands of riders and visitors will be passing through our community, and what better way to give them a warm welcome than with a town full of patriotism and hometown pride.

Let's work together to make State Center shine this summer as we celebrate this historic milestone!

Dear valued patrons, The State Center Historical Society seeks donations for our local museums and invites you to contribute. The following items are requested:

1. Vintage Iowa state flag.
2. Children's and school items from the 1880-1921 period.
3. Financial contributions towards new shutters.

Currently, books and furniture are not needed at this time.
