New to the online gallery. . .

North Carolinaā€™s state flower, the flowering dogwood, designed by Starworks Director of Glass Megan Lange and made in-house by the artists at Starworks Glass.

Approximately 5.5 inches long, each piece features a delicate branch, dogwood flower, and budding leaves. Handcrafted in-house, no two pieces are exactly alike.

Join us each Sunday as we tell you a little more about the stars behind Starworks šŸŒŸ Today, weā€™re kicking this series off with Peter Tietbohl, Assistant Gaffer Starworks Glass

Peterā€™s journey with Starworks began in 2024 with a 3-month glass internship. After spending a season learning and creating with our team, he returned the following year in the role of Assistant Gaffer, where he helps create production work, supports visiting artists and interns, and assists with workshops, demonstrations, and community events.

As an independent glass artist, Peterā€™s work is focused on searching for beautiful moments.

ā€œMoments in a color pattern where the movement of the molten glass is frozen in the finished piece. Where colors move and overlap in unique organic ways, creating unreproducible patterns. I strive for a harmonic balance between density and negative space, proximity and tension, and line weight and color value in the compositions I create.ā€

As we approach the end of our summer session, resident ceramic artists came together for a beautiful woodfiring - and we were lucky enough to catch a peek at the results.

As is the nature of woodfiring, every piece tells a different story. Surfaces shift. Ash settles. Glazes respond to heat and atmosphere. Some results are anticipated; others are a complete surprise.

Weā€™re incredibly grateful to our summer ceramic residents Kate Oggel, Jessika Edgar, Jodi Connely, Keiko Inoue, and Donovan Palmquist for joining us this season to experiment, collaborate, and make. An added thank you for letting us share a glimpse into their process along the way. šŸ§”

From garage projects and repairs to building something entirely your own, welding is a skill with a lot of possibilities.

Our Intro to Welding Workshop with Metals Studio Director Mac Metz is designed for beginners with little to no experience. Over the course of one day, you'll learn welding safety, tools, processes, and the basics of metal fabrication, with plenty of hands-on time to practice.
