This spring, Elsa Hoffman brought plasma cutting to center stage, capturing imaginations with intricate designs cut from solid steel.

Now that inspiration is sparking a new opportunity.

Join Director of Starworks Metals, Mac Metz, for our very first Intro to Plasma Cutting Workshop on July 18.

Participants will learn the technical basics of plasma cutting before getting hands-on experience creating their own designs in steel. From simple shapes and lettering to detailed imagery, you'll discover how this versatile tool can transform sheet metal into art. No experience is required, and you'll leave with your finished pieces ready to display at home.

This show brings together three emerging ceramic artists, Aislinn Baker, Kai Fukunaga, and Casey Mitchell, whose shared language of dots, texture, and play reflects a year of exploration during their Starworks internship. Like an ellipsis, the exhibition marks not an ending but a continuation — a glimpse into evolving practices and the beginning of what comes next.

Our 2025-2026 ceramic internship is coming to a close, and it’s time to celebrate one of the incredible artists who has helped make this year so special, Casey Mitchell.

During her year at Starworks, has worn many hats, assisting customers in our Ceramic Supply Shop, teaching workshops, serving as honorary dog godmom to Molly & Simone, and spending countless hours developing her own work in the studio.

Before Casey’s internship comes to an end, we invite you to experience her work in Dot Dot Dot, an exhibition featuring Casey alongside fellow ceramic interns Kai Fukunaga and Aislinn Baker. On view June 22 through August 8, the exhibition celebrates the creativity, growth, and artistic exploration each intern has brought to their time at Starworks.

Thank you to Helen Frankenthaler Foundation for selecting us as a 2026 awardee, providing crucial support to replace our aging glass furnace with a high-efficiency system that will reduce energy consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthen the sustainability of our glass studio for artists, students, and future generations. 💙

In collaboration with Environment & Culture Partners, this initiative is the first grantmaking program of its kind to catalyze energy efficiency at visual arts organizations.

Stay tuned as we share updates on the furnace replacement, the impact it has on our studio, and what we’re learning along the way.
