Nancy Lissner is one of our treasured garden club members. Please read and consider helping them with prayers and support through this GoFundMe or any other way you can help.

The Lissner family has always been there for others, showing kindness and support whenever it was needed. Now, they are facing an unimaginable tragedy. They recently lost their home in a devastating fire, along with their beloved father, husband, and many of their pets. This loss has left them with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a deep sense of grief.

Madison, Nancy, and Evan are now in urgent need of help to cover immediate essentials like clothing and basic supplies. They are trying to rebuild their lives from the ground up, and every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference. Your support will provide them with the resources they need to start healing and moving forward.

Thank you for considering a contribution to help this family during such a difficult time. Your generosity will mean the world to them as they navigate this challenging journey.

Best regards,

Madison, Nancy and Evan have always put others before themselves and always the friend… Madalynn Schwanekamp needs your support for Help the Lissners Rebuild

Today, June 27, some of our garden club members met at the Concord Senior Center for our annual plant exchange. There were great conversations and everyone went home with new treasures.

We also met Cathy from Red Barn Nature’s Way Fiundation who uses gardening as occupational therapy for children. They had just made new raise beds and were grateful for plants.

Today, April 16, ten of our members braved through the snow to enjoy an afternoon at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. Seeing all the beautiful spring flowers give a glimpse of of what is to come and raised spirits.
Afterwards, they enjoyed conversations at Pasquales’s restaurant for lunch.
Cindy Goode, our outing coordinator, has put together several tours for us to enjoy over the summer. This one came at the perfect time.
Thank you to Dave Stahley for the photos.

Our March meeting, featured Ken Lawton from Turnbull Nursery and Garden Center in North Collins.

We learned that Turnbull uses about 760 acres of prime gravel soil to propagate their stock nursery material. Gravel works the best for their big diggers and conveyors to shake the soil off of their bare root materials. Many plants start going dormant about August so they begin digging from October to Thanksgiving. The plant material is stored with high humidity in cold storage.

They start shipping to commercial nurseries about January and open for retail sales in mid March. They will hold your purchases until time to pick up. Many buds start waking up in April so it is recommended to pick them up and definitely have them in the ground by May 1. Do not overwater these plantings until they start new growth.

Ken described the different methods used for the grafting of their plant materials and detailed advice for the best planting procedures. He also brought several bare root trees and showed how to prune both the tops and roots before putting them into the ground. Ken and the staff are happy to answer questions and offer suggestions about what grows well in your area.

It was an enjoyable and informative presentation.
