The South Carolina Food Systems Network 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 is back, and now we are coming to the 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀!

𝗚𝗚𝗘 Regional chef–farmer meetup series to strengthen relationships and recognize leaders in the local food community.
No one knows these special individuals who commit themselves to growing and cooking local food better than the communities they serve.

Each region will have a designated open window to nominate a farmer or chef. We'll announce the winners at the respective regional meetups.

Food sovereignty is about who gets to decide. Right now, too much power sits far from the people growing and eating food. Communities deserve a real say in how their food is produced, shared, and valued.

It's October. There are pumpkins everywhere you look! Where I live, people are even giving out free pumpkins. The big question is what do I with them? Naturally, I want to decorate with them lol... But I am trying to think about how can I get the best benefit for my body. 🤔

Pumpkin is not only healthy to eat, but it can also be used for beauty purposes. Pumpkin is a natural exfoliate. If you puree pumpkin, you can use it topically by creating a mask for your face. Mix about 1/4 cup of pureed pumpkin, 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt, and 1 tablespoon honey. Canned pumpkin works too.

When people think about eating pumpkin, a lot of people's minds go straight to pumpkin pie and different desserts. However, we're being more health conscious these days, right? So, if you would like to add more pumpkin to your diet, try finding savory pumpkin recipes like soups and chilis.

Meet our two new interns Lucas Jones and Saniyah Valcin, two students from the AgriBusiness department at SC State University. They are working with various student-run organizations on campus to revitalize Growing COB’s first community garden. 🤩

Brittney Holman and her organization, Fairy Tells Not So Fairy, teamed up with SC State 1890 Research & Extension, Growing COB, and others to open a second community garden in Norway, SC. See what’s growing 🥬🥬🥬
