This summer, our communities faced numerous challenges and incurred significant expenses due to the widespread damage resulting from multiple extreme thunderstorm wind events and tornadoes.

Now that FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has officially denied Illinois' request for assistance, State Rep Anthony DeLuca has filed legislation authorizing the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the Office of Homeland Security, to expend moneys from the Budget Stabilization Fund, also known as the Rainy Day Fund, to help reimburse impacted municipalities for expenses incurred while providing emergency disaster relief and restoration services.

The "Rainy Day Fund" currently has about $2.5 Billion in the fund and our communities certainly experienced a few Rainy Days.

Today, Rep Anthony DeLuca, Chair of the House Cities and Villages Committee, convened a Disaster Preparedness & Government Management meeting, including communities from across the Chicago Southland and Eastern Will County.

After our communities faced numerous challenges due to the widespread damage resulting from multiple extreme thunderstorm wind events and tornadoes, it's critical our communities emergency response, communication channels, and resource deployment are fully prepared.

Presenting were the Directors for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, and the Will and Cook County Emergency Management Agency.
