β½ EDUCATION SERIES: Why do we travel outside of Springfield to play?
It's a question we hear a lot, so let's break it down.
At the level our top teams compete, the quality of competition needed for strong development often isn't available close to home. Travel isn't about chasing trophies, it's about putting our players in front of the level of play that actually helps them grow. It is about seeing the competition first hand to learn what it takes.
Here's what that looks like in practice, by league: (And check out the graphic for more details on each one!)
π Lake Country (Springfield, MO) β Local league play, right here at home.
π Heartland (Kansas City) β Regional competition that raises the bar.
π Pre-ECNL Regional League, Frontier Division β U11-U12 girls.
π ECNL Regional League, Frontier Division β U13-U19 girls.
π Sporting Development League (SDL) β U11-U12 boys, U12 girls. Played in Kansas City in front of Sporting KC's youth coaching staff.
π MLS NEXT, Heartland Division β U13-U19 boys.
π National Academy League (NAL) β U13-U19 boys.
None of this is about outrunning our own backyard. It's about giving every player, at every level, the competition that pushes them to get better. Development first. Always.
