Our 49th annual Apple Butter Festival will have a Royalty Contest for 5- and 6-year-olds that attend Patricksburg Elementary School, Spencer Elementary School, McCormick's Creek Elementary School, and Gosport Elementary School. This is one of our service projects that supports Spencer-Owen Community Schools' teachers and their classrooms. Entry forms were sent to each school and are due 9/16. The contest will be held near the Spencer Lions Club tent on Main Street, Saturday September 19th, 9:30am.

We will have Apple Butter and other "butters", preserves, and jellies at The Apple Butter Festival September 19th & 20th. Here is our list, as published in the event program book. These will be available for sale (while supplies last) at the Spencer Lions Club's tent on Main Street on the west side of the Owen County Courthouse square, but you are welcome to call ahead to make a purchase in advance.

Our 49th annual Spencer Lions Club Apple Butter Festival Program Books have been printed! Many thanks to World Arts Inc. for working with us and, to all of our advertisers for their support. We appreciate the hard work of Lion Anita Kay and her committee. They are being distributed now to all of the businesses and organizations that are included. They’re FREE and available now at most high-traffic business locations, like Babbs Supermarket.

The Spencer Lions Club partnered with the Indiana Department of Education and USDA this summer to provide FREE meals to any Owen County resident 18 years of age and younger. This Summer Food Service Program was designed to make sure our community's children do not go hungry through the summer months while on school break. The types of meals varied, but each was balanced with guideline servings of protein, grains, fruits, and vegetables. We served over 7,500 meals! We greatly appreciate all of the organizations, partners, donors, and club members that contributed to this in various ways. The donations we received helped provide enhanced food offerings to those who dined with us. The lives of many families and our youngest community members have no doubt been positively impacted. See you all next Summer!

Our Summer Food Service Program continues now through July 31st, and here is this week’s menu. Free meals will be provided to all children 18 years old and under, and to persons over 18 who are enrolled in a state-approved educational program for the mentally or physically disabled. For all other adults, meals are $3. Meals provided will be the same for all participants and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service, in accordance with Federal civil rights law and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies. Meals will be provided on a first come / first serve basis at the Spencer Lions Club, located at 59 N Main Street in Spencer, weekdays from Noon to 1:00pm.
