Riverside Cemetery Repair Dinner Fundraiser
Spencer Lions Club
April 18th - 4:00pm to 7:00pm

Join us April 18th for a fundraiser to help Riverside Cemetery repair and restore a cannon that was damaged by a tree during a storm. From information provided by Keith Bucklew, "We have two eight-inch caliber Rodman cannons, used by the Union Army during the Civil War (1862-65). The cannons were emplaced at Riverside in 1905 and face to the south. These early model field artillery cannons were cast in 1861 by the Fort Pitt Foundry, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Each cannon weighs 8,600 #. The work to restore the [damaged] cannon to its position will also require a new limestone slab. We have a plan to get the situation fixed, but it will take a few weeks.” Thank you Keith for sharing, and allowing us to incorporate your photos.

Last Fall, the Spencer High School Old Grad Day event was held. Our own Lion Anton Neff had volunteered at that (and had at the last several) working on guest check-in / relations and doing whatever else was needed. We are very grateful for the surprise $200 donation by the Old Grad Day Committee to our club in recognition of his work for them. Thank you!
