Spencer Main Street Cities and towns across the nation have come to see that a prosperous, sustainable community is only as healthy as its core.

Spencer Main Street, Inc., was founded in 2015 by an all-volunteer group of individuals desiring to promote and foster the revitalization of downtown Spencer, Indiana. Over the past 30 years, the Main Street movement has transformed the way communities think about the revitalization and management of their downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts. The Main Street program uses a 4-part appro

ach:

1. Design: Enhancing the physical appearance of the district by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging supportive new construction, developing sensitive design management systems and long-term planning.

2. Organization: Building consensus and cooperation among the many groups and individuals involved in the revitalization process. To ensure a self-reliant, broad-based, long-lasting downtown revitalization program, the entire community must rally around the idea.

3. Promotion: Marketing the downtown to customers, potential investors, businesses, local citizens, and visitors.

4. Economic Restructuring: Strengthening the district's existing economic base while finding ways to expand it to meet new opportunities and challenges from outlying development. Main Street's ultimate goal is to create downtowns that are economically viable.
