SAY Detroit

SAY Detroit SAY Detroit, And Say Something Amazing He spent a night in a shelter to call attention to the issue.

SAY Detroit is a fully formed 501(c) (3) charity aimed at improving the lives of the neediest citizens, through shelter, food, medical care, volunteer efforts and education. It serves as the umbrella for ongoing major projects including A Time to Help, SAY Detroit Family Health Clinic, and Working Homes/Working Families. SAY Detroit was formed in February, 2006, after Mitch Albom went public with

a plea to do as much for the homeless all winter as the city was doing over a Super Bowl weekend. The response was overwhelming, and SAY (Super All Year Detroit) was born. Since then, its accomplishments include:

-the nation’s first full-time medical clinic for homeless children and their mothers

-a state-of-the-art kitchen at the Michigan Veterans Foundation

-a full-time day care center for the children of homeless women who are in transition or searching for work

-Newly refurbished homes for poor but working families, that are deeded over to them after two years of occupancy

-The funding of dozens of projects for Detroit area agencies

We're so proud of our Mi-Cycle program, which was among three nonprofit finalists awarded a $10,000 grant at the 11th annual "Big Give'' hosted by funder Impact100 Metro Detroit . But that's only the beginning as it was a win-win night for us: Mi-Cycle program director Chuck Nagy's "pitch'' to the crowd about the program's need for a "mobile bike shop'' for youth and school outreach spurred 2025 Big Give nonprofit winner Recovery Mobile Clinic to donate one of their used vehicles to SAY Detroit after the event!! Congratulations to fellow finalists/grantees Elli's House 313, DPL Foundation, The Holley Institute, and PASC.

It’s always a sweet time at our community baby shower for new and expectant moms in SAY Detroit Clinic’s First Year program. The program helps moms and their families through baby’s first year of life with resources and one-on-one counseling and goal setting. Saturday’s baby shower was a celebration of 40 moms who are supported in the program and as one mom Jocelyn said, “Seeing so much kindness, support, and generosity meant more to me than words can fully explain. It made me feel seen, supported, and excited for this next chapter of motherhood.” ❤️❤️❤️

Special thanks to Cam Barrett of Kroger, a new donor to our annual First Year baby shower event for low-income moms and moms to be. He dropped off 40 gifts bags assembled by Kroger’s Michigan Division employees so each family has something special to take home!

Stay tuned for some precious highlights from our event to come!!
