Supporting South LA parents as champions of human rights - CADRE is a grassroots campaign to solidify and advance parent leadership to ensure that all children are rightfully educated regardless of where they live.

Recently, Core Parent Leader LaTanya Hull addressed the LAUSD Board of Education, advocating for student mental health and highlighting its impact on school climate and safety. Her leadership reflects what has always been true: when parents are organized, informed, and empowered, they drive meaningful change.

This is what parent power looks like.

CADRE parents gathered for yoga + a sound bath — not just to relax, but to build the inner resilience our community needs to survive and thrive together.

When parents are grounded, families are grounded. 💙

CADRE parents aren't waiting — they're acting.

At our latest Monitoring Team meeting, we reviewed firsthand observations from LAUSD classrooms, unpacked discipline disparities, and began mapping out policy recommendations to drive change in our schools.

Parents are the experts. Parents are the solution.

Today, we got to witness something that reminds us exactly why we do this work. Our CADRE parents showed up this morning at the CD9 Candidates Forum — sitting in those seats, logging into the livestream, listening closely, and making sure the candidates who want to represent our community knew we were paying attention.

It means everything to us to see our families take that time on a Saturday morning, bring their questions, and engage directly with the people who could shape our neighborhoods for years to come. Housing, safety, jobs, education— these aren't abstract policy issues. They're the fabric of our daily lives, and our parents know that better than anyone.

We are so grateful to the CD9 Coalition and its member organizations for creating this opportunity for the community.

For 25 years, CADRE has been building the power of Black and Brown parents in South Los Angeles. From classrooms to boardrooms, parents have led the fight for equitable schools, stronger communities, and real accountability. This year, we honor that legacy and step into what’s next.

South Central organizations are coming together to make sure the people who represent our community will actually listen and respond to our needs — and we want YOU in the room.

Join us on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, from 10 AM–12 PM at A Place Called Home, The Bridge — 2901 S. Central Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90011, for the LA City CD9 Candidates Forum, where you'll hear directly from candidates on the issues that matter most to our community.

Who wins CD9 shapes our neighborhoods — housing, safety, jobs, and city services — for years to come. An informed community votes with power, so bring a neighbor, a friend, a family member, and let's show up strong together. 🗳️ Register here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfpDIiAIheiNuF3s6rB8C5UlugjYXQTfhzytPex3ZnRF9yQew/viewform or follow the QR code.

To close out March, our parents came together to heal, breathe, and reconnect — and it was everything. 💛 From guided meditation to cold-pressed juice to Paint & Sip, our community showed up fully and showed out.

This is the work. Taking care of ourselves so we can keep showing up for our kids — in the classroom, in the community, and in the fight for educational justice in South LA.
