A little late on last weekends of the volunteer recognition, so we’re combining the it with today’s event. Our mentees continue to support our community initiatives by volunteering their time!
Beyond the value of community service these youth receive the added value of gaining work experience, working with the public, building relationships, learning to work as a team, and listening to me tell them about wasting money 💰 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Well what’s a mentor to do 🤷🏾‍♂️. These are some amazing young men and women.

We want to thank everyone who participated in our Child Abuse Prevention Month Service Project in any capacity. We did not reach our goal of 1000 pounds, but we did get over half way there. What was more exciting than the 528 pounds of cans that we collected in 3.5 months was the way the youth responded to the project.

The more the students learned of the project and its purpose the more they willingly participated. It was very exciting and encouraging to watch it happen on a daily basis. Teaching youth that they can make a difference individually and collectively, that they can do things to benefit others, the value of community service is empowering and rewarding. Thanks again and we now have a target weight to exceed next year. Thanks again!

The proceeds from this project will be donated to Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky (PCAK).

THE HOOD MENTEES!!! Every time they volunteer they are helping support their community. Their selfless service and dedication to mission of The HOOD is really inspiring. They could choose to do many other things.

I had the chance to introduce them to Coach Webb who had plans to do an officiating presentation with them twice that was canceled by bad weather.

They also got a chance to meet Sterling Chase, member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity has plans to volunteer some of his time supporting the youth and the mission of The HOOD.

In honor of Arab American Month at the Richmond Teen Center, Inc. we celebrated our Arab American Mentees and the Richmond Arab American Community with a presentation that was prepared and presented by our amazing mentees.

The presentation featured members of the Arab American Community who prepared the program, authentic Arabian Cuisine and an educational slide show presentation.

The meal was prepared by the families and Babylon Restaurant. Some of the dishes prepared were: Falafel, Chicken Shawarma, Rice, Hummus, and Dolma.

The slide show covered several topics related to Arab Heritage and Culture, including Traditions, Education, Food, Language and Religion, Clothing, and Music and Art.

Today’s program was a very engaging and informative for everyone in attendance. The mentees did a GREAT JOB presenting. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
