Happy Father’s Day from Somerset Berkley Softball League 💙❤️🥎

Behind every catch in the backyard, every ride to practice, every late-night conversation after a tough game, and every cheer from the stands, there’s often a dad helping make it all possible.

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who give their time, energy, patience, and love to help our girls grow both on and off the field.

Thank you for being the first coach, the biggest fan, the loudest cheerleader, and the steady support system through every strikeout, every home run, every win, and every lesson learned along the way.

Softball is about much more than the game. It’s about memories made playing catch in the yard, practicing until the sun goes down, sharing post-game ice cream, and creating moments that our players will carry with them for a lifetime.

To all the dads who volunteer, coach, work concessions, drag fields, throw batting practice, help with homework after a late game, and do countless things behind the scenes, thank you. Your impact reaches far beyond the softball field.

Today we celebrate you and the special bond you share with your daughters.

🍂🥎 We know Summer is just getting started, but let’s be honest… time flies when you’re having fun!

While we’re excited for all the memories still to come this Summer Sandlot Series, we also wanted to give everyone a heads up that Fall Ball is coming to Somerset! 🍁

Whether your daughter is returning to the field, trying softball for the first time, or looking for extra reps before Spring, Fall Ball is a great opportunity to stay active, build confidence, and continue developing skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Why play Fall Ball?

🥎 Extra reps and game experience before the Spring season

🥎 Continue building confidence and softball skills

🥎 Stay active during the Fall months

🥎 Play with friends and make new ones

🥎 Great for newer players looking to learn the game

🥎 Keep athletes engaged and prepared heading into Winter training and Spring softball

If your daughter plays soccer, basketball, gymnastics, cheer, dance, or another sport, that’s fantastic too! We fully support multi-sport athletes and believe kids benefit from experiencing different sports throughout the year. Fall Ball is meant to complement those sports, not compete against them.

🍁 Fall Ball will be offered this year for our Instructional, 8U, and 10U players.

If your daughter is in the 12U, 14U, or 16U age groups and would be interested in participating in Fall Ball, please email the league at [email protected]. We’d love to gauge interest as we explore expanding opportunities for our older players in future seasons.

As always, a huge thank you to the coaches, volunteers, and families who continue to step up and make opportunities like this possible for our girls. Your dedication is what keeps this league growing and thriving.

Join the Somerset Berkley Softball League for our Summer Sandlot Series, running July 6th–August 12th at Ashton Field. Players ages 8U–10U meet Mondays and 12U–14U meet Wednesdays from 6–8 PM for friendly, fun games under the summer sunset. This is a laid‑back, welcoming atmosphere where players can enjoy the game and build confidence. Please bring your cleats, bat, helmet, facemask, and plenty of water.

Registration is required. Go to www.sbsl-jr.com to register.

Games may be canceled if participation is too low. GameChanger will be set up and an RSVP to each game will be required to ensure we have enough players to play.

💙🥎 Join Us for the Derek Tavares Memorial Tournament 🥎💙

Father’s Day Weekend, June 19–21, we invite our softball family, friends, and community to come together to celebrate the life of a truly special person - Derek Tavares.

Derek was more than a father, friend, volunteer, and supporter. He was someone who always showed up. Whether it was helping behind the concession stand and sneaking a free candy bar to a child, cheering from the sidelines, lending a hand when needed, or simply being there for others, Derek made an impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

SBSL and the Progressive Club are proud to come together to host the 18+ Derek Tavares Memorial Tournament. This weekend isn’t just about softball - it’s about honoring a man who loved this community and the people in it.

And just like that, the 10U Rec season has come to an end. ❤️🥎

It’s amazing how fast a season flies by when it’s filled with laughter, friendships, and the love of the game. What started as a group of young players eager to learn turned into a team of girls who worked hard, grew their skills, built confidence, and created memories that will last far beyond the softball field.

We are so proud of every single one of these girls. Not just for the plays they made, but for the effort they gave, the friendships they built, and the way they supported one another throughout the season. Watching their growth, both as players and as young athletes, has been incredibly rewarding.

Thank you to our players, coaches, families, and supporters for making this season so special. While we’re sad to see it end, we’re excited for what’s ahead.
