Watch Maggi cross a river on her bike with instructor Alicia’s help!

This is Maggi’s second bike season with WAS. Over her lifetime, she has actually learned to bike three different times. The first was as a child. The second time was after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS); when she lost the ability to pedal with her legs, she learned to power a handcycle with her arms. As the MS progressed and she lost the ability to handcycle, she discovered WAS. Through participating with WAS, she learned to ride a recumbent bike powered entirely by pedaling with her thumb.

“For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for cycling and being surrounded by nature. Finding WAS has shown me how to embrace challenges, build my confidence, and allowed me to live in an ‘abled’ body, not a ‘disabled’ one.” — Maggi, WAS Participant

At Wasatch Adaptive Sports, we believe everyone belongs out in nature. Our mission is to share that pure joy, freedom, and sense of belonging with every child, adult, and veteran who wants to ride.

For some of our participants, that means feeling the wind on their face for the very first time. For others, like Maggi, it means reclaiming their independence and re-learning to ride after a life-altering diagnosis. Whatever the journey looks like, WAS is here to make it possible.

“I pedal because riding a bike makes me feel accomplished. It shows me I can do things I never could before. That’s what it’s all about—pushing past your comfort zone and proving to yourself that you can achieve the things you once thought were impossible.” — WAS Instructor, Mike

Growth happens all the time at WAS, and our instructors see it happen on the trails every single day.
But we can’t do it alone. Become a monthly donor today. By joining our community of monthly supporters, you help us keep providing the resources, gear, and instruction people need to challenge themselves and redefine what’s possible on a bike.

WAS grants manager Mikenna telling us how she learned to ride a bike💙💚

Riding is a universal joy. Whether you are just learning for the first time, or returning to riding after an injury or life-changing event, the experience connects us all.

That’s why, as part of our Pedal With Purpose campaign, we are asking our community three questions:

Why do you pedal?
What is the story of how you learned to ride?
What is your most memorable riding experience?

We hope to share more stories of people finding true joy and freedom through cycling. Head over to the link in our bio to fill out the “why do you pedal” form!

“I pedal because bikes are a universal language and it is how I connect with my community.” - WAS Program Specialist Alicia💚💙

During Wasatch Adaptive Sports’ Pedal With Purpose campaign, we’re asking our community a simple question: Why do you pedal?

For many of our participants, pedaling means reclaiming freedom, building physical strength, and connecting with a community that says “yes, you can.”

When you sign up as a monthly donor this June, you are directly supporting getting more participants on bikes and fueling these life-changing breakthroughs all year long.

Plus, we want to thank you with some awesome exclusive perks:

🔹 $25/mo – Exclusive WAS Hat
🔹 $50/mo – WAS Cooler
🔹 $100/mo – WAS KÜHL Backpack

Every new monthly donor in June will also be automatically entered to win our Grand Prize, announced in July!

Why do you pedal? Tell us your “why” or share your favorite memory of learning to ride a bike in the comments below!

What started as a new experience last summer quickly became a passion for WAS participant Maggi. Mountain biking gave her the chance to challenge herself, build confidence, and enjoy the outdoors in a whole new way. We’re excited to kick off another season tomorrow and get back on the trails together!💙💚
