Sometimes the best way to work through a BIG feeling is to get the whole body moving.

One of the things we practice at Journey Camp is helping kids learn how to recognize what their bodies need and find healthy ways to regulate. And that doesn’t have to stop when camp ends!

TBRI® reminds us that physical activity and sensory-rich experiences can be valuable tools for regulation and connection. The good news? Families don’t need special equipment or a complicated plan to put that into practice.

Try going for a walk together. Race to the mailbox. Have a dance party in the kitchen. Jump on a trampoline. Play catch. Carry something heavy across the yard. Create an obstacle course. Even a few minutes of purposeful movement can give a child an opportunity to reset before tackling what comes next.

And whenever possible, do it together. Movement can become more than a regulation tool. It can become an opportunity for laughter, connection, and trust.

Sometimes loving kids from hard places looks like sitting down and talking.

And sometimes it looks like getting up and moving. 💛

29 backpacks. 29 opportunities to help a child start the school year feeling prepared and cared for.

A huge thank you to Holly Ridge Baptist Church for dropping off 29 backpacks filled with school supplies for kids served through A Home For Me! These donations came from their church family and Vacation Bible School, which makes us especially grateful to know that another generation is learning what it looks like to notice a need and do something about it.

Thank you to Children’s Minister Caleb Wiley and everyone at Holly Ridge who helped make this happen. Practical generosity like this makes a real difference for kids and families from hard places.

What a great way to head into a new school year!

The laundry is folded. The Journey Camp shirt is put away.

But the memories? Those stay.

This summer, we celebrated 10 years of Journey Camp—10 years of laughter, healing, friendships, silly string, big feelings, brave moments, and countless reminders that every child deserves to be seen, valued, and deeply loved.

To every camper, buddy, volunteer, donor, and partner who has been part of this story over the last decade: thank you. You have helped create something that reaches far beyond two days at camp.

Here’s to the memories we’ve made, the lives that have been touched, and the next 10 years of helping kids from hard places discover hope, connection, and belonging.

💛 Happy 10 years, Journey Camp.

If you’ve ever been to Journey Camp, you know… no one is safe from the silly string. 😄

Here’s to a decade of laughter, healing, connection, and letting kids from hard places simply be kids.

Day 1 of Journey Camp #2 is in the books! 💛

Today’s theme was flexibility.

As it turns out, we had plenty of opportunities to practice it. 😄 Not everything went according to plan—but isn’t that often how life works?

Together, our campers learned that while we can’t always control what happens around us, we can learn healthy ways to respond. We took deep breaths, adjusted expectations, regulated our emotions, and kept choosing joy.

Those are lessons that extend far beyond camp.

We’re so proud of these incredible kids and can’t wait to see what Day 2 has in store!

That’s a wrap on Journey Camp #1. 💛

Over the past two days, we’ve watched new friendships form, confidence grow, laughter fill the room, and kids simply get to be kids.

Every game played, every conversation shared, every high five, and every encouraging word is part of something much bigger. Journey Camp exists to create a place where kids from hard places know they are seen, valued, and deeply loved.

As we say goodbye to our first campers, our hearts are already turning toward the next group arriving soon.

One camp down. Three more to go.

We can’t wait to see what this summer has in store.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day!

As our nation celebrates 250 years, we’re reminded that every generation has the opportunity to leave the next one better than they found it.

This year is also a milestone for us at A Home For Me as we celebrate 10 years of Journey Camp—ten summers of creating spaces where kids from hard places can laugh, heal, build friendships, and discover they are deeply loved.

We’re grateful for the freedom to serve, the community that makes this work possible, and the countless volunteers, donors, caregivers, and partners who have helped write the Journey Camp story over the past decade.

Today, we celebrate our country. And we look forward to celebrating 10 incredible years of Journey Camp with all of you later this summer.

Happy Fourth of July! ❤️🤍💙
