Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas Clothing and Textile Advisors A volunteer organization to teach interested persons about Sewing and Textile arts. This is one of the very few free activities for children attending the fair.

SEWING CAMPS (offered yearly) – 2015 we had three sewing camps (four skill levels) and two Creative Camps, and a quilt camp offered in two different locations in Kitsap County, and one beginning sewing camp in Port Angeles. A total of eighty-eight children, ages 8-16, participated, receiving approximately 15 hours of sewing instruction. Skills learned were: reading and following instructions, care

for sewing projects and machines, pressing, and learning to work with and adapt to a variety of volunteer instructors. CTA’s volunteered directly at the sewing camps and prepared samples, educational aids, and kits throughout the year. CTA FAIR ANIMAL PROJECT – CTA’s worked throughout the year to sew, turn and press a variety of stuffed animals for children at the fair to stuff and sew shut. Tags are placed on the animals to denote the year they were made; many children come back year after year to add to their collection. Children as young as two learn to push the stuffing into the animals and then, with CTA volunteer assistance, sew their animals shut. In 2015 over 1400 animals were sewn and prepared for the fair. Volunteers worked all five days of the Kitsap Fair and over 500 hours were volunteered. CTA MEMBERS – To become a CTA member there is a six-week training course (30 hours) offered every other year.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about judging at our local fairs? KOP CTA members are offering training to prospective judges clerks, and anyone who is interested in learning more about the process!

Who/What: KOP CTA (Kitsap & Olympic Peninsulas Clothing & Textile Advisors), with the support of Kitsap Fair Home Arts department, is sponsoring a class on Fair judging. The emphasis will be on clothing and textile exhibits and the needle arts, though many of the principals will apply to other home arts departments.

Why: This class is for you if you want to become a Home Arts judge during the Kitsap Fair, or you just want to know more about how fair judging works.

When: June 6, 10am-3pm, bring your lunch

Where: Silverdale Lutheran Church, 11701 Ridgepoint Dr NW, Silverdale, WA

Cost: $10 for written materials and snack, payable at door on day of class

This upcoming exhibit at the Burke Museum offers a look at Coastal First Nations textiles.

We are excited to announce that our next special exhibition, Woven in Wool: Resilience in Coast Salish Weaving, is opening September 13, 2025 and running through August 30, 2026.

We’re proud to be collaborating with the Coast Salish Wool Weaving Center, whose members are the lead curators for this exhibition.

Woven in Wool: Resilience in Coast Salish Weaving showcases both historical and contemporary woven creations, including blankets, tunics, hoods and skirts.

Journey through the seasonal cycle of weaving, from gathering materials and spinning wool to dyeing with natural ingredients and weaving intricate designs.

Along the way, learn firsthand from weavers and gain insight into the deep cultural and scientific knowledge embedded in every strand.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to put on our annual SRS? It is a year-round effort by members to collect, sort, and price fabric, notions, and patterns. Here is a peek at a recent work party for our boutique. CTA's sort, price, weigh, fold, and test fabrics prior to accepting them for boutique pricing. This two-day effort involved 9 totes full of fabric with each piece being individually inspected! Many more totes still to go!
