2026 New Jersey Annual Program: Celebrating with Uplift a Child
A Special Birthday, A Special Cause!

Uplift a Child held its New Jersey Annual Program on February 28, 2026 at 6.30pm, graciously hosted at the residence of Board President Prasad Alla on the occasion of his wife Sahithya Alla’s birthday. Sahithya Alla chose to celebrate her special day by dedicating it to a meaningful cause by raising funds for Uplift a Child during the program. The gathering brought together board members, sponsors, and well wishers dedicated to advancing our mission.

The program featured reflections on 25 years of service, an impact video, global operations updates, financial highlights, and inspiring messages from leadership. With 1,277 children supported across five countries, the evening reaffirmed our commitment to expanding educational opportunities for underserved children.

Our special thanks to Uplift a Child USA Board President Prasad Alla for graciously hosting the New Jersey Annual Program Event at his residence. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who joined us and continues to support our mission. Together, we are changing lives—one child at a time.

✨ A Day of Joy and New Beginnings in Kamembe Sector ✨

On the 2nd of January 2026, something truly beautiful happened in Kamembe Sector. Our 60 children—each with their own dreams, challenges, and bright hopes—received new school uniforms and books to begin their year.

Watching their faces light up was a reminder of how powerful even the simplest acts of care can be. Some held their uniforms close as if they were treasures. Others flipped through their new books with the kind of excitement that only children who deeply value education can show. The air was full of laughter, gratitude, and a sense of possibility.

Moments like these remind us why we do this work. These children are determined, resilient, and full of potential. They show up every day ready to learn, ready to grow, ready to build a future that looks different from their past.

And while they continue to give their best, it’s the kindness of people who believe in them—from near and far—that makes days like this possible. When a child feels seen, supported, and equipped, their world opens up in ways that can’t be measured.

Here’s to new uniforms, new books, new hope—and to everyone whose generosity helps these young hearts keep moving forward. Their smiles say more than words ever could.

On January 31st and February 1st, our Uplift a Child team had the joy of visiting our 87 children in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. This year’s visit was especially meaningful as we were joined by Dr. Mangru, Mrs. Mangru, and Mrs. Mangru’s sister, who traveled all the way from Guyana, South America. They have been touring India for the past two months and made a special stop in Trichy specifically to meet our children and experience our program firsthand. We were honored to welcome them with great warmth.

Their connection to our mission goes back nearly four decades. Dr. and Mrs. Mangru were teachers of our Founder & CEO, Mr. Sam Vonumu, in 1987, when he was studying in Jamaica, West Indies. Their bond has remained strong ever since, with continued friendship and visits to Sam sir’s home in the United States. Deeply inspired by his work through Uplift a Child, they reached out before leaving America, gathered all the details, and planned to spend part of their vacation with our children here in Trichy.

During their visit, the Mangru family and our team spent time meeting children in their homes, understanding their daily lives, and encouraging them with love and kindness.

✨ Annual Program – February 1st ✨

Our Annual Program was held on February 1st with all our children and their families in attendance. The event was filled with joy, color, and pride as our children performed various cultural dances, showcasing their talents and confidence.

We also heard heartwarming testimonies from parents, as well as inspiring words from our former student and volunteer Harish Vangalpudi, and our ex‑employee and long‑time volunteer Naresh Karnam. Their journeys reflect the long-lasting impact of education and opportunity.

Although our Founder & CEO Mr. Sam Vonumu could not attend in person, he sent a heartfelt message to all the children, which was played over the mic and received with great enthusiasm.

🏅 Celebrating Academic Excellence Children who excelled in their studies were honored with cash prizes and the prestigious Boggavarapu Awards, established in 2006 to motivate students toward academic excellence.

This initiative is generously sponsored by Dr. Lava Boggavarapu and Dr. Navin Boggavarapu and their family, originally from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, and now residing in New Jersey, USA. Their long-standing commitment to education continues to inspire and uplift our children year after year.

🇮🇳 The program concluded with everyone joining together to sing our National Anthem, a proud and unifying moment for all.

🍽️ A delicious lunch was then served to every child and parent, lovingly sponsored by the Mangru family, along with support from their friends. Their generosity made the day even more memorable.

❤️ From all of us at Uplift a Child, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Mangru family, the Boggavarapu family, and the Administration at St. Vincent Matric. Hr. Sec. School - Trichy, our volunteers, parents, and every child who made this program a beautiful success. Together, we continue to uplift, inspire, and create brighter futures.
