The preservation of building structures, objects, and spaces that contribute to the historic character of Montgomery County Maryland and the development and implementation of plans for preserving and effectively using these resources are MPI's primary objectives. MPI works with preservation groups and interests in Montgomery County to create and maintain a strong and effective force for hi

storic preservation in Montgomery County. MPI promotes the recycling of architectural details that comprise the physical evidence of Montgomery County's history. The promotion of research and education on the subjects of local history and historic preservation; and encouraging citizen participation and cooperation with governmental and private groups in the furtherance of these objectives are another of MPI's primary goals. is located in the Historic Silver Spring B&O Railroad station, 8100 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Md. The building is Montgomery County’s only 20th century railroad passenger station. To save it from demolition MPI purchased the property from CSX and led a community effort to raise the money to save this beloved landmark.

During the barn raising on June 4th, twelve buildings to house livestock, exhibits, and the center’s offices were completed thanks to the large crew of volunteers! You can see many of those building under construction in this photo. The first Montgomery Fair was a huge success with an estimated attendance of 15,000 on Saturday!
