The Silver Spring (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was deeply honored to receive the 2026 Chester J. Petranek Community Award presented by the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras at Strathmore. đź’š

Established in 1986 by the MCYO Board of Directors in honor of founder Chester J. Petranek, this award is presented annually to an individual or organization for “outstanding community service in enriching the musical life of the Washington Metropolitan area.”

We are incredibly humbled that our chapter was selected for this recognition through our support of African American youth and our “Classics Through the Ages” initiative, which continues to create opportunities and access for young musicians in our community.

We are grateful to MCYO for this meaningful honor and proud to continue supporting the next generation through the power of music, arts, mentorship, and community.

Congratulations to all of the talented young musicians who inspire us every day. 💚🤍

The Arts Facet of the Silver Spring (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated hosted 30 members, friends, and Montgomery College students for a guided tour of the sold-out American Sublime exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art, followed by lunch and fellowship at Gertrude’s.

Sherald’s work reminds us of the power of portraiture to tell stories that matter. A highlight was meeting Director Dr. Asma Naeem, the first person of color and Baltimorean to lead the museum.

Links connected to building a healthier community through Arts awareness.

The Doctor Is In
Healthcare Education for Real World Care

Meet our friend Dr. Cynthia Overton. She will share her story about how she has learned to navigate health care after a rare spinal cord lesion left her paralyzed resulting in experiences with numerous hospital stays, insurance systems while trying to heal and live her best life. Her book, Clear Cane Chronicles: Shaping the Future of Healthcare Through Person-Centered Care is a practical guide for person-centered care. Cynthia illustrates why seeing patients as people, not just cases, is essential to effective care. Join us to learn about her stories of humor, challenge, and resilience. She will talk about how better alignment among patients, providers, and payers can improve real-world healthcare experiences.
