Shepherd's Table

Shepherd's Table In 2025, we served over 163,000 hot, nutritious meals to people experiencing hunger and homelessness at Progress Place, along with many other vital services!

Thanks for making this possible! Shepherd’s Table’s mission is to improve quality of life, help create pathways toward lasting well-being, and inspire hope for the most vulnerable experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, and poverty. We welcome all to our community table for meals and access to social services, all
provided with compassion and respect. At the core of these essential services is

our meal service program, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the week and brunch and dinner on the weekends. Since 1983, we have served over 2,000,000 meals to those who are hungry in our community. This enormous feat is accomplished through the generosity of our volunteers, our financial and in-kind donors, and the staff of Shepherd's Table. We also have a Resource Center, a Clothing Closet and Montgomery County's only free Eye Clinic (by appointment only). Today, more than ever, we need to sustain our unbroken record of service. Make a life-giving difference. We invite you to follow the example of the hundreds of donors and volunteers who share so generously in so many ways. At Shepherd’s Table, everyone is welcome exactly as they are.

This Pride Month, and every month, we’re proud to be a place where all people can come as they are and share a meal with dignity, respect, and care. No questions asked.

We believe everyone deserves to be seen, valued, and welcomed at the table.

To close out Healthy Vision Month, we’re highlighting an important program we have at Shepherd’s Table which is our Eye Clinic (the only free eye clinic in Montgomery County).

The Eye Clinic is open every Tuesday by appointment from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM. Please note we will be closed on June 16.

This year so far, we’ve supported 40 individuals and provided 36 pairs of prescription glasses.

We’re also now supported by four on-call volunteers who can assist with French, Spanish, and Amharic translation (based on availability), helping us better serve more community members.

For all eye clinic inquiries and communication, please use: [email protected]

Our Volunteer Lounge has a brand new look!

A huge thank you to our rockstar volunteer handyman, John, for giving the space a fresh coat of paint and installing a new whiteboard so our volunteers can stay up to date on announcements.

We’ve also upgraded our lockers! Our old system required padlocks, which wasn’t always convenient. The new electronic lockers allow volunteers to set a simple 4-digit code to securely store their belongings during their shift. Once opened, the code resets for the next user.

We’re so grateful for our volunteers and hope these updates make your time at Shepherd’s Table even more comfortable and welcoming.

Thank you to the Mohican Hills Concert Series for hosting a beautiful evening in support of Shepherd’s Table! We’re so grateful to everyone who attended the Bluestone Strings Quartet performance and helped make the night so special 🎻

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible musicians: Ben Scott, Lauren Ellis Scott, Malorie Blake Shin, and Raymond Tsai for sharing their talent and creating such an intimate experience.

We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Billie Jo for coordinating this wonderful partnership and to Brad Clark for opening his home and creating a space where music, community, and compassion could come together in support of our neighbors in need.

Community partnerships like this help strengthen and connect our community, and we are so appreciative of everyone who helped make the evening possible.

On Saturday, we celebrated the graduation of the fourth and fifth cohorts of our Culinary Skills Training Program.
We want to congratulate Tehya and Patrick from Cohort 4, and Robert, Christine, Terri, and Imani from Cohort 5.

Each of them worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone, and we’re excited to see where their career paths take them next.

The intimate ceremony was held in our dining room and attended by graduates’ friends and family, staff, and special guests Kate Stewart and Lorig Charkoudian.

Each student received a certificate of completion from Christina Moore, along with a knife set and tablet to support them in their next steps. Several students were also honored with the Chris Parkman Award, named in memory of a student from our first cohort who achieved the goals he set for himself before his premature passing.

In addition to the awards presented by Christina, Councilmember Stewart and Delegate Charkoudian also presented graduates with certificates in recognition of their accomplishments. The ceremony was followed by a delicious lunch catered by Shepherd’s Table.

Our sixth cohort is set to begin on June 1. If you or someone you know is interested in the program, please visit: https://shepherdstable.org/cstp/
