DREDF believes that Section 504 protects transgender people with disabilities, including a gender dysphoria diagnosis. The disability community includes transgender people, and disability justice cannot be achieved without trans people. We are genuinely sorry that the webinar slides during the community briefing did not clearly communicate this. We have revised the materials on our website.

We’d also like to clarify that the organizations that helped prepare the plain language explainer were different from the people who presented and created the materials for the community briefing. Any misunderstanding created by the content in the community briefing should not be attributed to those organizations. We apologize for the harm caused.

We will keep fighting together so that this lawsuit is dismissed.

We applaud the U.S. Department of Transportation for taking steps to make air travel safer for disabled travelers. These changes will expand employment opportunities for disabled workers--including disabled workers in the legal profession.

Every airline passenger deserves safe and dignified travel when they fly.

Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation is announcing strengthened protections for passengers with disabilities and more rigorous standards for airlines when handling wheelchairs. https://www.transportation.gov/briefing-room/secretary-buttigieg-announces-sweeping-protections-airline-passengers-disabilities

We hope you consider signing this petition to support 2L Brittany Lovely, whose request for accommodations on her final exams due to her pregnancy and the upcoming birth of her first child was denied. We know these unnecessary, and illegal, barriers all too well. We support Brittany and urge Georgetown University Law Center to not only do the right thing for Brittany but to ensure this never happens again to any student.

Update: We are heartened to learn that GULC has changed course and granted these necessary, reasonable accommodations. We hope this outcry will lead to changes in GULC's reasonable accommodation policies and procedures.

A federal judge in Texas issued a nationwide injunction blocking a U.S. Department of Labor rule that expanded overtime protections for workers. Make no mistake: Disabled legal professionals will be harmed by this ruling. By January 1, this policy would have required that salaried employees making below $58,656 per year be paid overtime. It also would have increased requirements for exempt highly compensated employees.

A Trump-appointed judge in Texas ruled the Labor Department exceeded its authority when implementing the rule, which was partially implemented in July.

A new Harvard Business Review and Rutgers University Center for Women in Business study shows that disabled people, especially disabled women, experience discriminatory perceptions in negotiations. Legal employers must confront bias head-on to improve and expand opportunities for disabled employees. https://hbr.org/2024/11/research-the-stigma-disabled-people-face-during-negotiations

The prototypical image of a successful negotiator is someone who is competent, confident, and in control — characteristics that are not always readily applied to disabled people. Two researchers wanted to understand if disabled people are more stigmatized in an intense job task, such as a potentia...
