Teamwork makes the dream work ⛳️💙

Our AmeriCorps Project CHANGE members were happy to support our partner, George B. Thomas Learning Academy, during their Annual Saturday School Golf Tournament fundraiser yesterday.

The fundraiser helps support Saturday School programming and educational opportunities for MCPS students across Montgomery County.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for our students.

Some trainings stay with you longer than others.

Today our members came together for a training focused on life after AmeriCorps and navigating grief. The session was led by Akufuna, who shared his journey as a former AmeriCorps member and Deputy Director, offering honest insight as our members begin thinking about what’s next.

We also took time to reflect and share memories of Muriel, our AmeriCorps member that we lost this year. Muriel was an incredible leader in our program. She showed up with intention, care, and a deep commitment to her students at William Tyler Page. A teacher at heart, she made a lasting impact on everyone around her.

Following the training, we shared a luncheon and created space for connection, where members made bracelets in her memory. It was simple, but meaningful.

As our members serve MCPS students each day, we are intentional about serving them too, pouring back into their growth, their well-being, and their journey.

Today was about more than training. It was about showing up for one another, honoring Muriel’s life in service, and carrying her legacy forward in the work we do every day.

Full circle moment 🌱

Our AmeriCorps member Sande was at the District 20 Breakfast Club this weekend, where community members came together for a legislative session recap. While there, she connected with Senator Will Smith, a Project CHANGE alum.

Back at Springbrook High School, Sande leads our hydroponics project, growing fresh greens with students and creating hands-on learning opportunities.

From the classroom to community spaces like this, this is what it looks like when the work connects.

We spent three days in Dallas at the 2026 National Service Training connecting with programs from across the country.

Spaces like this matter because strong programs are built through shared ideas, honest conversations, and learning from one another.

From discussions on member experience to partnerships and sustainability, this was a valuable opportunity to reflect on how we continue to strengthen our work.

Looking forward to bringing this back to Project CHANGE and continuing to support our members and communities.

You had to be in the room for this one. 🎤

Ahmed led our media literacy training on how to tell your story and our members did an incredible job! You could feel the shift as members started connecting their experiences to something bigger.

Shoutout to Daniel (AmeriCorps alum) for coming back and supporting, and Paul for bringing the energy and pushing everyone to engage.

This is what building confidence, voice, and leadership looks like in real time. 🔥

Spring break is here 🌸

From the first day of service to the everyday moments in between, this year has been filled with growth, connection, and impact.

Our AmeriCorps members have been showing up consistently for MCPS students, supporting, encouraging, and helping create positive learning environments across Montgomery County.

As the week begins, we hope students, families, and staff take this time to rest and recharge.

Happy Spring Break, MCPS 💛

Project CHANGE hosted SEWA AmeriCorps members for a storytelling training this Friday 🤝 Our AmeriCorps members had the chance to exchange, cross-collaborate, and learn from one another, sharing stories and practicing what it means to be effective listeners. We’re here to serve students across Montgomery County and MCPS, and moments like this remind us that we learn, grow, and strive together. What an amazing experience 💙

🌱 AmeriCorps Week Spotlight

This week, Project CHANGE members Chiquita and Sande shared their voices on the “Why We Serve: Voices from the Field” panel at AmeriCorps Headquarters.

Through their AmeriCorps service with Montgomery County Public Schools, they support students at Springbrook High School through the Hydroponics Green Club, where students learn about sustainability and grow their own food.

Next week, students will take it a step further as the program connects hydroponics to a Culinary experience by learning how what they grow can become what they cook.

Hands-on learning, curiosity, and confidence in action. This is what national service looks like.

At Springbrook HS, the work begins in the greenhouse. 🌱

Rose, Sande, and Chiquita, a dynamic trio, show up every day planting, growing, and building something bigger than themselves.

What starts here reaches our students in real ways.
Support. Care. Opportunity. This is service in action.

Last week, students at built their first hydroponic Gardyn machine from the ground up.

We came back after the weekend and spotted our first sprouts. Real growth, right there in the classroom. 🌱

With help from AmeriCorps members Jordan and Kelly, students watered their seedlings, checked on their progress, and even started learning about mushroom cultivation. From building systems to caring for live plants and fungi, they’re getting a full hands-on intro to growing food.

It’s only week two and things are already coming to life. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
