"Different periods have attempted different translations of [resurrection.] Whereas bourgeois theology stressed the individual dimension, the new theology which we are working on will stress the social dimension of the mystery. We link resurrection with liberation because our deepest need is no personal immortality but a life before death for everyone.

But is there a life before death of this kind? How could we describe it? Where does resurrection and liberation then take place? I believe that the strongest sign of the new life is solidarity. Where there is solidarity there is resurrection. When we break the neutrality of silence and abandon our complicity with injustice, the new life begins.
