Communities In Schools of Chatham County Surrounding students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life!

Since 1989 Communities In Schools of Chatham County (CIS CC) has introduced and sustained multiple innovative youth development programs throughout Chatham County including community-based Mentoring, Family Advocacy, Community Service/Restitution, and Teen Court. In 2014 we became an affiliate of the national Communities In Schools program, adding on-site services at Chatham Middle School and Virg

inia Cross Elementary. Affiliates are active in 25 states and the District of Columbia. 161 local affiliates serve the lowest-performing schools and the students most vulnerable to dropping out. CIS CC serves disadvantaged children and youth ages 6 to 18 referred for services by Chatham County Schools (CCS), Department of Social Services (DSS), Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), mental health providers, and parents. We serve youth with persistent social, health, academic, and /or legal barriers that negatively impact their learning and development, increasing their risk for dropping out of school, teen pregnancy, criminal involvement, and unemployment.

📣What a great way to wrap up our Spring 2026 Community Impact Series!

Students joined Burney Waring from Innovate Chatham for an engaging afternoon of engineering, design, testing, problem-solving, and even contract negotiation—culminating in an exciting bridge-building competition.

A special thank you to Deanna, Travis, and Lydia for their leadership and vision in bringing this series to life, and to all of the students who participated with creativity, teamwork, and determination.

We're also grateful to Jason Smith and the team at Soleful Kicks for inspiring our students and recognizing their hard work.

The Community Impact Series returns on July 7! Learn more and register today: https://cischatham.org/community-impact-series/

🙌Today we celebrate more than a diploma. We celebrate perseverance, resilience, and the powerful relationships that helped make this moment possible.

Every graduate's journey is unique, but one thing remains true: caring adults who show up, encourage, and support students can change the trajectory of a life.

We are incredibly proud of our graduates and all they have accomplished. Congratulations to the Class of 2026! 🎓

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Reading Buddies 🌟

Some of the most powerful moments in a student's day happen when someone simply sits down beside them and says, "Let's read together."

Our Reading Buddies volunteers provide far more than literacy support. They offer encouragement, consistency, friendship, and the gift of their time.

For many students, these weekly visits become something they look forward to all week long!

To every Reading Buddy who has invested in a child this year: thank you for helping students discover the joy of reading through consistent relationships and the power of believing in themselves!

Your impact reaches far beyond the pages of a book.

🎓As we celebrate students moving up and graduating, we're also celebrating the people who helped make those milestones possible. 🙌

This year, 75 volunteers gave more than 2,500 hours investing in students across Chatham County through tutoring, mentoring, reading practice, encouragement, and simply showing up when it mattered most.

Success is never achieved alone. Behind every promotion, graduation, and bright future is a community of caring adults who believed in a young person and walked alongside them.

To our volunteers, mentors, tutors, partners, and supporters: thank you. Your presence is changing lives. ❤️

We first met Jy’Mir as a second grader. Today, he’s thriving as a rising junior at NC A&T, studying computer science — and this summer, he’ll begin his second internship, this time with Fidelity Investments. 💙

Jy’Mir’s journey is a reminder of what’s possible when a caring adult shows up consistently in a young person’s life.

Recently, Jy’Mir shared:
“I am only the second person in my family to graduate high school. I’m thankful for how CISCC taught me so many things, helped me and my family overcome challenges, and helped me believe in my future in ways I never thought possible.”

As we celebrate our graduates, we’re reminded that success stories like Jy’Mir’s are years in the making.

Watch more of Jy’Mir’s story (https://cischatham.org/2024-ciscc-graduate-jymir-fuller-testimonial/), and consider making a gift in honor of our graduates to help continue moving this work forward. 🎓

Some people paint. Some people sing. Some people dance. And then there are the rare souls who seem to create beauty in everything they touch. ✨

Our next Storytelling Campaign feature shines a light on a young artist whose creativity doesn’t fit into just one box. Whether through music, visual art, fashion, movement, or simply the way she sees the world, she reminds us that art is more than a hobby — it’s a way of living.

Downtown Siler City is full of people with imagination, passion, and the courage to express themselves openly. Young artists like her are helping shape the future of our community with fresh ideas, bold energy, and authentic self-expression. We’re proud to celebrate the creators who make our town more colorful, inspiring, and alive every day. 🎨🎶🖋️

📖 Stories drop every Wednesday at 5:00 PM, and we want to hear yours too! Everyone has a story worth telling — from artists and entrepreneurs to lifelong locals and new faces downtown. Reach out to get involved!

Graduation day is around the corner. 🎓

At Communities In Schools Chatham County, we know every student’s journey to this moment is shaped by support, encouragement, and trusted relationships.

For many students, having a caring adult consistently show up — to listen, guide, and believe in them — helped make graduation possible.

That’s the heart of our work: surrounding students with the support they need to stay in school and thrive in life.
