We are still trying to figure out the cause of the vision changes in Marigold and all of her babies except Pogo. One baby, Bungee, will need his eye removed when he is old enough to neuter, and we’ll be able to test it and get some answers. They sure are adorable 🐇❤️

Lucy unfortunately has a very familiar story

Please spay and neuter your rabbits. Over 80% of unspayed female rabbits will develop cancer in their lifetime. It is an essential part of basic health care for your bun. Yes, there is always a risk for any rabbit undergoing any procedure. That doesn’t mean we do nothing. Find yourself an excellent exotic vet and you minimize that risk. The alternative? Lucy’s situation - an abdomen filled with cancer. Anecdotally, I have never lost a rabbit to spay/neuter, and we have spayed and neutered young rabbits up to seniors and every age in between. Educate yourself. That is our responsibility to these beautiful creatures in our care.

Lucy is not out of the woods. Her cancer might have spread. She has inflammation making urinating more difficult. She’s pain controlled and on meds. We will care for her and love her no matter what lies ahead. Other buns are not so lucky.

Today we said goodbye to my boy Squeak. Along with Pip, he was my first bunny. He had terrible teeth and stenotic ears and yet he persevered through two TECABO procedures, two revisions to remove infection, and regular molar trims and incisor trims. He was a trooper and very much loved. My love of bunnies took root with Pip and Squeak. Today, his impact is felt in the many bunnies we have helped heal and live comfortable, happy lives despite medical challenges. Puffball Paradise stands as a tribute to how much he taught us through the years. Thank you Squeak for showing me the magic that exists in the love of a bunny. Love you buddy ❤️

This week, Bento had a recheck of his lungs. Some improvement there, although he is still sneezy. Kwazii being Kwazii. Churro looking adorable. She is Bento’s emotional support bunny. Chomper is suspected to have a cystic thymoma. He is headed for a CT scan to see if he is a candidate for radiation treatment. And finally one of Marigold’s babies. They are growing fast!

Marigold’s babies and baby babies (the surprise litter she had the morning after she arrived) are doing well! Coccidia free after treatment. All but one baby in both litters has what we believe are congenital eye lesions. Marigold can’t see well. She is EC negative.

The two litters have varying degrees of vision impairment. One little bun, Bungee, may need his eye removed. Only Pogo, the tiniest bun, has no vision changes. They are growing so fast ❤️

Has anyone experienced congenital eye lesions in rabbits similar to this? Please share your experience!
