We wrapped up the 2026 Baseball & Softball Season with a great evening at the ballpark!

At the wrap up event, every player received a medal to celebrate their hard work and dedication throughout the season and the Benton County Cattlemen grilled dinner for all. Afterwards, the kids had fun playing in the Foam Blaster and trying to dunk their coaches in the dunk tank.

Thank you to our players, coaches, volunteers, families, for another great season. We appreciate everyone who helped make it a success, and we're already looking forward to next year!

Don't forget—registration for the 2027 Baseball & Softball Season opens in January!

Congratulations to our Girls Pony League team on an outstanding season, finishing in a tie for 1st place in the league! 🎉

Made up of 6th-8th grade girls from both Shellsburg and Vinton, the Pony League gives players a great opportunity to build friendships, develop their skills, and play together before joining their future school softball programs.The season runs from mid-April through the end of June, providing a fun and competitive spring season.

Congratulations to all of the players and thank you to the coaches, families, and volunteers who helped make this season such a success. We're proud of everything these girls accomplished and can't wait to see what the future holds for them on the softball field! 💙🥎

Our Little League season was another great success! This year, we had 2 Little League Girls teams and 1 Little League Boys team, with a total of 34 participants in 3rd–5th grade.

The season runs from mid-April through the end of June. At the Little League level, athletes are learning the ins and outs of baseball and softball while competing against other communities in the Iowa Valley League.

Beyond the wins and losses, this level is all about growth—learning fundamentals, understanding game situations, developing teamwork, and creating lasting memories on the field.

A big thank you to our players, coaches, families, and volunteers for making this season such a positive experience. We can't wait to see these young athletes continue to grow and succeed in the years ahead! 💙⚾

On Sunday, our Coach Pitch program wrapped up its season!

The Shellsburg Rec Coach Pitch program runs during May and June. K–2nd grade boys and girls participate on gender-based teams, practicing 1–2 times per week and playing games on Sundays against other teams in the Iowa Valley League.

This year, we had 3 boys teams and 3 girls teams, for a total of 65 participants! This level is a favorite among players because it gives kids more of a real-game experience, with the opportunity to hit off live pitches thrown by their coach. If they don't make contact, they still get a chance to hit from a tee and make their way around the bases. It's an excellent level for continuing to learn the game, build confidence, and have fun!

A huge thank you to our volunteer coaches for sharing their time, patience, and enthusiasm while helping our young athletes grow their love of the game. We appreciate everything you do!

This week, our T-Ball program wrapped up their season!
Shellsburg Rec T-Ball runs throughout the month of May, with one practice each week. To wrap up the season, each team got to play two games against one another.

This year, we had 50 children ages 3–5 participate, making it our largest T-Ball group yet! We had five teams of 10 players and loved seeing so many young, upcoming, athletes out on the field.

A huge thank you goes out to our volunteer coaches for sharing their time, patience, and enthusiasm with our youngest participants as they learned the basics of an organized team sport. We'd also like to thank all of the parents who stepped in to help at practices and games. It takes a lot of helping hands to make a program like this run smoothly!

We are still looking for umpires for the following games:

Wednesday, May 20 — Field Umpire (Girls Pony League)
Thursday, May 21 — Plate Umpire (Boys Little League)
Monday, June 1 — Field Umpire (Girls Pony League)
Friday, June 5 — Field Umpire (Girls Pony League)
Pay is $40 for behind the plate and $20 for in the field.

Shellsburg Rec is looking for volunteers to help work the concession stand this season! This is a fun and easy way to support our programs and volunteer for the community.

High school students: This is a great opportunity to earn your Black & Gold Volunteer Hours! Each shift would earn you almost 2 hours of time!

⚾ Umpires Needed for Youth Baseball & Softball Season! 🥎

We are looking for umpires for the upcoming season for:
• Girls Little League
• Pony League
• Boys Little League Baseball

📍 All home games are played at the Shellsburg ball diamonds
🕠 Game time: 5:30 PM

💵 Compensation:
• $40 per game (behind the plate)
• $20 per game (field umpire)

📅 Season runs from May 18 through June 26

✅ Must be in high school or older

We are thrilled to share that we have an incredible 160 players from registered for this season! What an amazing turnout!

Our board is hard at work behind the scenes:
✔️ Finalizing coaching assignments
✔️ Ordering jerseys
✔️ Building team rosters
✔️ Creating field schedules
✔️ Preparing for upcoming league, coaches, and team meetings

We have received a few inquiries about late registrations, and while we understand that things can get missed, we are not able to make exceptions this year. Our program is completely full for this season.
