The Center Point Legion is proud to announce our October Veteran of the Month, Tim Cox!
Tim moved around some as a youngster but finished his school years at Iowa Valley HS in Marengo in 1980. He had enlisted in the Air Force about 4 months prior to graduation so he didn’t have to wait long to head off to basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio TX. After 6 weeks in basic he graduated and was shipped to Keesler AFB in Biloxi MS for his technical school. This is where he spent the next 8 months and learned to be a radio repair technician. Tim got interested in radios and radio repair when he was a teenager. His family had a missionary stay with them for a time and he setup a Ham radio in their house so he could keep in touch with his kids where ever he went. Tim followed this interest when he joined the Air Force. So, after tech school Tim was stationed at Ellsworth AFB in SD. Here he worked on ground radios used by the units maintaining the intercontinental ballistic missiles. After just two years Tim was moved to Stuttgart Germany. There he worked on avionic radio systems used by the 7th Army’s Forward Air Controllers. From there Tim moved to his final duty station, Reese AFB at Lubbock TX. In 1986 Tim separated from the Air Force and began working at a two-way radio shop in Dallas. He then took a job at PacTel paging company. He worked there when 3 other companies joined with PacTel and became Verizon. With Verizon he became an engineering manager and moved to St Louis MO. After 10 years here needed a change of pace and took a house keeping job at the Iowa City VA hospital. He’s now been there helping fellow vets for 20 years!! He moved to Center Point a few years after taking his job in Iowa City. His desire to help people didn’t stop at the VA. He has since adopted 4 special needs kids and raised them to young adults. He continues to watch out for anyone that he can help get back on their feet! Please help me thank Tim for service to this country which continues to this day…Thank you Tim
