1st week of summer over and on to the second week of fun! Our members got to enjoy a swim week at the Rec center and Splash Island! Looking forward to the rest of summer filled with fun!

Congratulations Peter Ha!! Today Peter Ha graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA from Central Magnet. Peter has been with our club since 2018 and has volunteered the past few years at our club along with his brother Leo. He was recognized for several awards and scholarships and will be attending UTK for pre-med. Peter was also out very first official recipient of our Youth of the Year award. We are so very proud of him and cannot wait to see where his future goes!!!

On May 7th we will be hosting an 8th grade and up night! We will be showcasing the teen centered programs we run here at the club. This will include a demonstration of our VR Career readiness program as well as our opioid prevention program. We are here to answer questions for you so feel free to come by!

Summer registration is open! Our summer program will run June 1st through July 24th and our hours are 7am-6pm Monday-Friday. There will be tons of fun activities and special events, as well as weekly field trips. Children must have completed kindergarten to attend and our program goes through 12th grade. Wanted to take a moment and spot light Andrea Juarez Alvarez. She has been working with our kiddos and team since January as part of her internship at MTSU. We asked her about her favorite part of working with our kiddos and an accomplishment she’s proud of.

It’s hard to choose just one favorite part of my internship. Being at the Boys and Girls Club has shown me how much I love working with kids. I got to work with different age groups, like 5–8 and 9 and up, which helped me understand them better and build connections.

One thing I’m really proud of is leading a Social-Emotional Learning lesson with the younger group about what it means to be a good friend and the kind of friends we want in our lives, like friends who support us and help us make good choices. It felt great knowing the lesson is something they can carry with them wherever they go.

Such a fun packed spring break with our members! They enjoyed the new Super Mario Galaxy movie, a fun day at the park, and topped it off with an Easter egg hunt! So grateful our members get to experience so many different opportunities.
