On September 11, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., the Great Barrington Fire Department will be honored to host a memorial ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
A quarter of a century has passed since that dark day in our nation’s history, yet the memories, the sorrow, and the extraordinary acts of courage remain with us. We will never forget the innocent lives that were taken, the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, or the first responders and survivors who have since lost their lives because of illnesses and injuries connected to that day.
During the ceremony, we will have the profound privilege of unveiling a permanent memorial containing a piece of twisted steel recovered from the World Trade Center towers. This sacred piece of American history will serve as a lasting tribute to those we lost, those who answered the call, and the strength and unity our nation showed in the days that followed.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has worked tirelessly over the years to make this memorial possible. Their dedication has ensured that this important piece of history will have a permanent home in our community, where future generations can pause, reflect, and remember.
The public is warmly invited to join us for this solemn and meaningful occasion. All first responders and members of the military, past and present, are especially welcome and are invited to attend in dress uniform and participate in the ceremony.
