These 4 precious puppies were found on a back road not highly traveled. If a bicycle group hadn’t decided to take that road, these puppies would have perished in the triple digit heat. Lost Paws Oklahoma was contacted and with help from Vivi Milakovic the puppies are clean, hydrated, full, and safe. They have an appointment Monday at Northside Veterinary Hospital to be checked over. Eventually, they will be completely vetted and put up for adoption. Please consider making a small donation for our upcoming expenses.

What heat is too hot for dogs to be out?

📌 Temperatures above 85°F (29°C) are generally too hot for dogs to be active outside, while anything over 90°F (32°C) is dangerous and should be restricted to quick potty breaks.

Temperature Safety Zones

🔹 Under 75°F (24°C): Generally safe for normal outdoor activities and play.

🔹 75°F to 84°F (24°C to 29°C): Use caution; limit long walks, avoid intense exercise, and provide constant shade and water.

🔹 85°F to 89°F (29°C to 32°C): High risk for heat stress. Avoid heavy activity. Sensitive breeds should stay inside.

🔹 90°F (32°C) and above: Very dangerous. Limit outdoor time to fast bathroom trips only.

📌 The Pavement Test

▪️ Air temperature does not tell the whole story. Asphalt and concrete get much hotter than the air.

▪️ At 85°F (29°C) air temperature, asphalt can reach 130°F (54°C) or higher, which burns paws in seconds.

▪️ The 7-Second Rule: Press the back of your hand against the pavement for seven seconds. If it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for your dog's paws.

📌 Vulnerable Dogs

🐾 Flat-faced (brachycephalic) breeds like Pugs and Bulldogs.

🐾 Dogs with thick, heavy coats like Huskies or German Shepherds.
Puppies, senior dogs, and overweight pets.

🐾 Dogs with health or breathing problems.

📌 Signs of Overheating

🔺Heavy or fast panting.
🔺Thick drooling.
🔺Weakness, wobbling, or acting confused.
🔺Bright red gums or tongue.
