Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland, Inc., or Beagle MarylandTM, is a nonprofit organization founded in April 2001 and dedicated to saving beagles and placing them in loving homes. Our beagles come in as strays, from shelters, and as owner surrenders. Some come into rescue needing only current vaccinations, regular meals, and love; others may need extensive vetting, nutritional support, or even lif

esaving surgery before they are ready to be offered for adoption. We do all we can to help every beagle in need who crosses our path. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on required vaccinations, heartworm-negative (or successfully treated for pre-existing heartworm infection), and microchipped before they go to a permanent home. BRSM is operated completely by volunteers, and all of our dogs are fostered by volunteers in private homes (we do not have a shelter or kennel). Many of our beagles had unhappy lives before they came to us, and their well-being and quality of life is important to us. Toward that end, we require prospective adopters to submit an Adopter Profile, and dogs are placed in permanent homes that meet our Standards for Adoption. It is our goal to give our beagles the best opportunity to find loving forever families. We do our best to ensure that they are ready for their forever homes, and that those homes are well-prepared for their new family member.

This spunky gal is Stella. She's an 8 year old, 28 lb, black and white beagle in need of a temporary foster home. We have a foster lined up for Stella starting mid-September, but we'd like to spring her from the loud, overcrowded shelter now. Stella is friendly and healthy, other than needing some dental work. Patty and Stitch are in need of a new home--together. They are said to be beagle/dachshund mixes. Patty is the 8 year old, red/white female, and Stitch is the tri color, 11 year old male. They are both small, weighing around 22 lbs. Patty and Stitch are being surrendered due to allergies. Patty is on the shy side and Stitch is a calm guy who loves attention. They both get along well with other dogs and have not been around children. Patty and Stitch love walks, but like most beagles, they like to pull in search of all the scents they encounter. Both are crate trained, house trained and know some basic commands. Patty and Stitch are sweet dogs who would be wonderful additions to any family. Please consider giving them a home. IT'S ANOTHER FEEL GOOD FRIDAY!! Today was Lenny’s turn to find hope!

Lenny wound up in the shelter through absolutely no fault of his own, and he has proven to be the absolute sweetest boy ever. Sadly, shelter life was incredibly hard on him.

Lenny quickly became sick—running a fever, unable to eat, and showing severe signs of an upper respiratory infection (URI). The shelter rushed him to an Urgent Care, where doctors confirmed he had a URI, potential pneumonia, and was anemic. He had zero energy, and his ears were badly inflamed & painful to the touch. The vet immediately started him on medications and the shelter reached out to BRSM.

Today was finally LENNY'S FREEDOM RIDE! 🚗

We took him straight to our vet for advanced care. The results are in: Lenny does, in fact, have PNEUMONIA. In spite of how completely crappy this poor boy must feel, his spirit hasn't broken. He remains as gentle, loving, and sweet as can be. Lenny is a fighter and is working on getting well. He needs some help with his medical bill, though. If you can help this sweet boy with the cost of his medical bills, he (and all of us) would be endlessly grateful.

No amount is too small; every dollar helps Lenny heal and get ready for his forever home.

Lenny is a 7 year old, 25 lb beagle in need of our help. He needs medical care and a foster home to recover in. Lenny was recently adopted directly from the shelter and returned after two days because his new owners decided they couldn't handle his medical issues and costs. We aren't sure at this point exactly what Lenny is dealing with, but he's anemic, lethargic and is currently being treated for kennel cough.

He is not doing well at the shelter and they lack the resources to give him the medical attention he needs. BRSM will take care of his medical needs, but we need a foster to give him the loving care he needs right now. According to Lenny's former family, he is housetrained, good with kids, other dogs and good natured. Please consider helping Lenny by fostering.
