Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland, Inc., or Beagle MarylandTM, is a nonprofit organization founded in April 2001 and dedicated to saving beagles and placing them in loving homes. Our beagles come in as strays, from shelters, and as owner surrenders. Some come into rescue needing only current vaccinations, regular meals, and love; others may need extensive vetting, nutritional support, or even lif

esaving surgery before they are ready to be offered for adoption. We do all we can to help every beagle in need who crosses our path. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on required vaccinations, heartworm-negative (or successfully treated for pre-existing heartworm infection), and microchipped before they go to a permanent home. BRSM is operated completely by volunteers, and all of our dogs are fostered by volunteers in private homes (we do not have a shelter or kennel). Many of our beagles had unhappy lives before they came to us, and their well-being and quality of life is important to us. Toward that end, we require prospective adopters to submit an Adopter Profile, and dogs are placed in permanent homes that meet our Standards for Adoption. It is our goal to give our beagles the best opportunity to find loving forever families. We do our best to ensure that they are ready for their forever homes, and that those homes are well-prepared for their new family member.

Since being rescued 2 months ago, Queen B 🐝 quickly became a favorite in her foster mom’s neighborhood. “The B” loves stopping for pets from her human neighbors and sniffs from her canine neighbors.

Now, Sweet B needs a procedure to remove a mass from her eyelid.

Queen B is one of our healthier pups — and her vet costs have exceeded $4,000 so far. (That’s including our rescue discount 😬) We expect her surgery to cost an additional $1,500 or more.

That’s the thing about dog rescue. We don’t have enough funds to pay for all the costs for all the dogs in our care right now.

But we figure it out, because it's worth it. ❤️

This sweet beagle is Flora. She arrived in an overcrowded shelter as a stray and is in need of a foster home. Flora is 5 years old, 34 lbs and on the shy side. She warms up to people quickly and enjoys attention. She gets along with other dogs and enjoys being walked on a leash once she feels comfortable. Flora is loving and laid back. Anyone who has ever lost their best friend knows the heartbreak. This little gal's owner has fallen on hard times, is losing her home and is now facing the same fate. She is working tirelessly to ease that heartbreak by reaching out to BRSM to find her bestie a loving home. Meet Heidi, a 3 year old, petite black and tan beagle who has been with her owner since puppyhood. Heidi is friendly, playful and well adjusted. She is house trained, crate trained, has lived with other dogs and a cat and gets along well with the entire gang. Heidi is well-mannered and has had professional training, but like any respectable beagle, she will need a fenced yard to keep her from exploring on her own. Heidi's family describes her as "just a good, good girl." Please consider fostering or adopting Heidi--she would be a wonderful family member and has a lifetime of memories to create. Winston found a foster and took his freedom ride on Friday! DEFINITELY A FEEL-GOOD FRIDAY!! 4-year-old, 21-pound Winston was a stray in a shelter that was over capacity. Tonight he is in a foster home, enjoying the company of his foster brother, and is coming out of his shell. Winston is such a good boy!! We will be working on Winston's vetting in the coming days.
