Jack joined the Fire Department in 1972 as an Active Member. He immediately became very active within all facets of the Department. In 1973 he was elected as President of Selkirk Fire Co. 2. He held the position until 1976 and was re-elected President from 1977-1978, and once again from 1988-1994. 10 Years total over three terms. No other person has served as many terms or for a longer amount of time as Jack. Jack also served as a Commissioner on the Selkirk Fire Board of Fire Commissioners for over 15 years. In 1996 Jack joined the Selkirk Fire Department Fire Police Squad. During his time as a Fire Police Officer, he served 12 Years as Fire Police Lieutenant.
Besides his time holding numerous offices, and being an active firefighter, he was also extremely active in various community events the Fire Department put on. For over 40 years he served as Co-Chairperson of the Selkirk Fire Co. 2 Flea Market along with long-time friend Joe Keller. He was also very active in coordinating the efforts of the annual Glenmont Fireman’s Fair, usually seen working in the Money Wheel Booth.
