Mondays training, walk in the community for some to the park to walk the dogs on different surfaces and reactivity to various items in the community. Meanwhile at the club they worked on healing in a crowded environment, red light green light walk and sit stays and comes with distractions of the other dogs with people walking the dogs the opposite direction.

During Monday evenings training our advanced canine teams did a show and tell (handlers showed off tricks that their dogs can do).

They also work on tricks they already know but also work on new tricks.

This was a fun night of training skills. Although it’s important for teams to practice commands reinforcing their CGC and therapy certification trainings, it’s also fun to show off what our dogs can do and learning new skills/tricks.

Many of our canines spend a lot of time together at therapy visits and or training together but never get to be off leash.

Last evening our canines had a wonderful time playing with each other while their human handlers observed. All in all it was a tail wagging good time.

Meet Our Board of Directors! 🐾

Amy Heintzelman - Secretary

Hi everyone! I’m a proud member and the secretary of Tri-County Obedience Dog Club and Precious Paws Therapy Program.

I grew up in Bloomsburg, PA, and now live in Selinsgrove with my husband, Drew, and our two dogs, Daphne and Otto. 🐶🐶 I am also the proud stepmother of Molly, who is beginning her college journey toward becoming a registered nurse.

I graduated from Mansfield University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and have spent the past 20 years working as a registered nurse in a variety of settings, including med-surg, the emergency department, corrections, and home health. I currently work as a policy analyst for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

I joined the club in January 2025, and it didn’t take long for Otto and me to become completely hooked! Otto completed the AKC STAR Puppy program and passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. Since August 2025, we have been visiting as a therapy team through Precious Paws. ❤️

Otto is a Newfoundland/Standard Poodle mix, referred to as a Newfiedoodle, who is always ready to play with his canine friends and has never met a person he didn’t love.

One of my favorite parts of therapy work is getting to experience all the different kinds of visits we do. Whether we’re visiting a hospital, school, nursing facility, or another community setting, I love watching people’s faces light up when Otto walks into the room. There’s just something about a dog that can make an ordinary moment feel a little brighter. 🐾✨

Being part of Tri-County Obedience Dog Club and Precious Paws Therapy Program has given me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people while doing something I truly love. I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships, experiences, and, of course, all the dogs that have become such a big part of my life!

🐾 Here’s to many more therapy visits, wagging tails, and happy faces! ❤️
