On Saturday, our fearless leader Donna, was contacted by our friends at the Greenway about some kittens needing help at the Yakima Police Dept. and could we help. Apparently officers had found a kitty laying on the ground next to their cruiser. Some kittens had gotten up under their vehicle and by the time Donna arrived, the officers were able to grab 4 more making 5 kittens total. The kittens were stone cold so Donna immediately put them in her shirt to warm them up.
There was still one more kitten, but short of dismantling the undercarriage, they had no luck grabbing it. So the officers made a plan to drive slowly while 2 officers followed behind the vehicle hoping the kitten would fall out along the way and they'd be there to save it. The vehicle drove a block with the officers behind and ended up at the Jiffy L**e where this last kitten was saved. The Jiffy L**e guy said we had to name this kitty "Jiffy" which, of course, we did!
There are 4 females (Cagney, Lacey, Zena, Jane) and 2 males (Columbo, and last but not least, Jiffy). 2 have severe upper respiratory, but all in all, these bottle babies were saved in a nick of time and wouldn't have lasted much longer. No mom to be found. (we have trapped in this area many times and there are lots of strays).
Major kudos and respect to the diligence of Officer Peckham and Officer Rosales for refusing to give up on rescuing these precious kitties! Their efforts have made this world a better place ❤️
