The Fayette County Conservation District is hosting its first ever Pocket Meadow Workshop!

On June 16, 2026, they will be welcoming Stephanie Jellison to the Fiddler's Building at the Fayette County Fairgrounds.

Stephanie is the Southwest Regional Watershed Forestry Specialist with the PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources and she will provide information on the ins and outs of transforming an area of your yard/lawn into a pocket meadow.

Conversion of lawn to habitat, including meadows, is important to watersheds because the new habitat:
Improves water quality through increased stormwater infiltration, nutrient reduction, and erosion reduction
Promotes healthy soils
Increases native plant biodiversity
Increases wildlife and pollinator habitat through the restoration of native plant communities
Improves carbon sequestration and storage
Improves air quality through decreased mowing emissions and air pollution removal
Free seed to plant your own pocket meadow will be provided for registered participants - 1 per family please. Seed will cover up to an approximately 1,000 square foot area.

The workshop is limited to 25 participants. Participants will be registered on a first come, first served basis with priority given to Fayette County residents. Those interested from outside Fayette County will be placed on a waiting list and will be contacted if space allows.

The workshop is free to attend but registration is required.

To register for the workshop, please send an e-mail to [email protected].

Date: June 16, 2026
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Location: Fiddler's Building, Fayette County Fairgrounds, 132 Pechin Road, Dunbar, PA 15432
