Today we have 2 Rescue Anniversaries. Both were rescued on April 17th, 2017. I believe it was Easter.
First, Moon. Moon was listed on a local page as needing to be gone that day or he would be Easter dinner. Moon had been through three homes in three years, and his last home was living in the back of a pickup truck. When Moon arrived, he was sunburned and covered in ticks. I spent the better part of the next day just pulling ticks off him. He paced the fence for days. We were able to get him neutered about a week and a half later, and he just calmed down.
Today, Moon is one of the sweetest pigs in the herd, and his best friend is Gordy.
Rollins (named after the great Henry Rollins) actually arrived earlier in the day. His people got him as a Christmas gift, and by Easter, they were over him. Rollins was a bottle baby, which is when people buy a pig when they are days old, take them away from their moms and siblings, so people can bottle-raise them.
Rollins was listed for free on Craigslist, which meant the only people willing to take him wanted to eat him. When Rollins arrived, he was so tiny but covered in mange. All he did was itch himself. But we wormed and vaccinated Rollins, and about a month later, he recovered. Rollins hangs out with the big pigs in the main herd, and his best buddy is Pete (Steele), another bottle baby.
