Earlier this month, participants in the Bayou Region Energy Leadership Series had the opportunity to visit Port Fourchon and gain firsthand insight into the critical role Louisiana’s energy industry plays in powering our nation and supporting the global economy. As the service hub for 100% of the Gulf of America’s deepwater energy assets, Port Fourchon provided the perfect backdrop for a deeper discussion on the opportunities and challenges shaping our region’s energy future.

Facilitated by Lori LeBlanc of Aurora Solutions Group, the session featured insights from Chett Chiasson, Executive Director of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, and Kristy Quintal, Corporate Affairs Senior Advisor at Woodside Energy, who shared perspectives on Louisiana’s evolving energy landscape. Participants also enjoyed a waterside tour of the port led by GLPC Deputy Director Davie Breaux, providing a unique look at one of the nation’s most critical energy infrastructure assets.

Experiences like these are part of SCIA’s ongoing commitment to developing informed leaders and providing meaningful educational opportunities. Through partnerships with COLAB, the Atchafalaya Intracoastal Coalition, Louisiana Future Energy, and Aurora Solutions Group, the Bayou Region Energy Leadership Series is helping cultivate the next generation of leaders while advancing SCIA’s vision of being the premier organization focused on energy and coastal issues in the Bayou Region.

Our SCIA NextGen Leadership Coalition recently had the opportunity to tour the Coastal Center at Nicholls State University and learn firsthand about the critical work being done to support Louisiana’s coast through science, research, and innovation.

Participants also heard from an outstanding panel of coastal leaders who shared insights on the current state of Louisiana’s coast and the collaborative efforts underway to implement the Coastal Master Plan. Thank you to Henri Boulet, Executive Director of the Morganza Action Coalition; Bren Haase, Executive Director of the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program; Dwayne Bourgeois, Executive Director of the North Lafourche Levee District; and Representative Joe Orgeron, Executive Director of Restore or Retreat, for sharing your expertise and perspectives.

At SCIA, our mission is to advocate for and create opportunities for industry vested in the Bayou Region. As an organization committed to coastal preservation, restoration, and infrastructure, experiences like these help prepare the next generation of leaders to understand the challenges and opportunities shaping our region’s future.

Investing in tomorrow’s leaders is essential to ensuring a strong economy, resilient communities, and a sustainable coast for generations to come.
