In Memory of a Hero: John โJackโ Gregory Hipple, Sr. ๐บ๐ธ
It is with heavy hearts that Mid Michigan Honor Flight shares the passing of one of our Mission 25 honorees, John Gregory Hipple, Sr., 95, of Mecosta, Michigan.
Jack passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, with his sons by his side.
Born November 17, 1930 in Detroit, Jack was a proud graduate of St. Mary of Redford High School. He answered the call to serve during the Korean War, and we were honored to have him fly with us on Mission 25 so he could experience the memorials built in gratitude for his sacrifice.
After his service, Jack dedicated 34 years to Ford Motor Company as a superintendent, retiring with the same work ethic and leadership he showed in uniform. On May 15, 1954, he married Joan, the love of his life. Together they shared 71 years of marriage until her passing in fall 2025. Now, they rest together again.
A faithful member of St. Michaelโs Catholic Church in Remus, Jack lived by faith, family, and service. He was the guy who could fix anything โ and would, for anyone who needed help. Generous, steady, quietly kind.
Jack is survived by his children Patrick (Louise), Jack (Miwa), James, and Mary (Paul) Ward; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan; daughter Kathleen; his parents; and his five brothers and one sister.
To the Hipple family โ thank you for sharing Jack with us. It was our privilege to honor him on Mission 25. His service to country, commitment to family, and willingness to help others embodies the spirit we see in every hero we fly.
Rest easy, Jack. Mission complete. ๐
