Mid-Michigan Honor Flight joins the nation in mourning the loss of an American treasure. ❤️

Dolly Parton — the Queen of Country — passed away yesterday, August 25th at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. She died peacefully in Nashville surrounded by loved ones.

While the world knew her for hits like "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You," we remember her for what she stood for: love of country, love of family, faith, hard work, and giving back.

From donating books to millions of children through her Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, to funding vaccine research, to supporting flood victims in her native Tennessee — Dolly lived the values our veterans fought to protect.

Dolly once said, “I’m not a bit political, but I’m extremely patriotic.” And she lived it.

She released an entire album for our troops on Veterans Day, lent her face to an Air Force KC-135 tanker named “Miss Dolly,” performed for airmen and their families, joined the USO to talk with service members around the world, and through her Imagination Library put free books into the hands of military children at bases like Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Thank you for loving our veterans, for your music and kindness, Dolly. We will always love you.

Join us in playing a Dolly song today in her memory. What's your favorite?

🐾🇺🇸 Happy National Dog Day from Mid-Michigan Honor Flight! 🇺🇸🐾

Today we honor not just our veterans, but their loyal companions too.
From Military Working Dogs who served alongside our troops, to Service Dogs who provide comfort and independence today, to the family pups who wait at the door and give our heroes the best Welcome Home ever — dogs have always served, protected, and loved unconditionally.

Show us your veteran and their best friend in the comments! 👇🐶

Drop a photo of your pup — especially if they've been part of an Honor Flight
