We love hiking and lucky for us on the Central Coast, we are close to some beautiful places to satisfy that urge. It’s easy to get caught up with couch potato activities when the weekend finally rolls around, but why not get out and get going on a local favorite: Bishop Peak in San Luis Obispo? As those of you who’ve seen the amazing views from the top know, head to the top of Highland Drive and park as close to the cul-de-sac as this busy hiking trail will allow.

Some basic information:
-Total distance: 3.5 miles
-Gain in elevation: 950 feet
-Leashed dogs welcome, bicycles are not
-Difficulty: Moderate (according to the Sierra Club)

Take a seat on the bench at the top and soak in the panorama. While this is a safe trail, those of you with the urge to see the 360-degree views from the top of the rocks should remember to take caution when navigating the large boulders, as accidents have occurred.

Have a photo from your hike up Bishop Peak? We’d love to see it! Post it and tag the Eric Okerblom Foundation for all of us to see!

Hey Everyone,

The Eric Okerblom Foundation is excited to support the efforts of the Conor Lynch Foundation and their 3rd Annual 5k Run/Walk In Honor of Conor on October 27, 2013 in Sherman Oaks, California. If you’ll be in the area or are up for the drive, register for this inspiring event on their Active.com page: http://tinyurl.com/p3dbxfl. This year’s theme is “Super Safe Drivers”, so strap on a cape and have fun supporting this heart-filled cause.

In their own words, The Conor Lynch Foundation “supports programs that raise awareness and promote safety for pedestrians, runners, cyclists and young drivers.” Tragically, their foundation was created after the death of 16-year-old Conor Lynch on October 19, 2010. Since then, Conor’s family and friends have worked to honor his life and memory by championing programs that aim to eliminate the circumstances of his death for others.

Like Eric, Conor’s legacy is much more than how he passed. To read about the life of this remarkable young man, visit: http://tinyurl.com/pbak5e3

Hello friends and those who are soon to be,

We, at the Eric Okerblom Foundation, are excited to announce that we are back to using this page as an opportunity to maintain and strengthen the community that has grown around the life and memory of Eric. We are just as fired up as ever in our advocacy against distracted driving, so rest assured we will keep you up-to-date on our efforts and the efforts of the many other people that have dedicated themselves to this cause. The Eric Okerblom Memorial Clinic, staffed by our amazing volunteers, has become an endeavor we feel confident Eric would be proud of, and in that, we know we are on the right track. As the foundation evolves, so do our projects. After the amazing success of Eric’s Run earlier this year and the outpouring of enthusiasm of the community to, quite literally, get active about their support for the foundation, we feel that our celebration of Eric’s love for the outdoors should go well beyond once a year. We will be sharing news, articles, and interviews regarding outdoor activities and we’d love for you to be a part of it. Have questions about routes in the area? We’ll help you find them. Not sure which gear is best? We’ll find out. Want to contribute your knowledge? That would be great! We want to encourage you to get out there and be active, but even more than that, we want to help you do it safely.
