Another scholarship success story!
Vai Ra’a Palma Araki is in her 4th year of studying medicine. She received the 2024 Fraternal Order of the Moai Award.

“When I graduate from college, I hope to work at Hanga Roa Hospital. My plan was always to help the Rapa Nui community, to provide quality care, to empathize with the situation of my patients and to be able to leave the patients satisfied with the care I provide. After practicing on Rapa Nui, I plan to specialize in the area of psychiatry, because the island lacks this specialty.”

Micaela Anakena Cofré Pakarati

2024 Wold Family Foundation Award recipient studying speech therapy.

“I would like to focus on promoting and informing people about speech therapy to raise awareness among the Rapa Nui people. This concentration on families and caregivers of older adults is so they can learn strategies on how to communicate and relate when a neurodegenerative disease begins to advance or when people simply begin to age. I would like to create instances where musicians and singers can attend to teach them about good vocal hygiene and thus improve the quality of their singing voices. I would also like to work with the hospital staff to promote hearing health programs and guide those who need it in the process of accessing hearing aids.”

“Tourism is the main economic activity of the island, but it is currently being threatened by environmental and social factors. Thanks to the knowledge I obtained and the skills I have developed, I will be able to contribute to Rapa Nui and its people by developing projects that can impact the community, taking sustainability into consideration at all times, as well as ancestral wisdom, and how these can enhance each other. “

EIF Scholarship Success Story:

"This year is my last year of study to receive my Master's Degree in Administrative Law and I would like to obtain a doctorate once I finish my current studies. I obtained the degree of Bachelor of Legal Sciences from the University of Alba, and later obtained the title of Lawyer granted by the Supreme Court. My family comes from the Miru Ra'a clan and since ancient times they have been dedicated to agriculture. I was one of the first in my generation to earn a college degree. This is why I feel a responsibility to give back to my community with the necessary knowledge to protect the ancestral legacy of my culture." ~Antonio Fernando Muñoz Tuki
