On July 25th, Probationary Firefighter Aaron Bohnen helped rescue a swimmer caught in dangerous surf and rip currents at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz. Bohnen, who works full-time as a firefighter/paramedic while also serving as a California State Parks lifeguard, assisted fellow lifeguard Ryder Williams in bringing the swimmer safely to shore.

On August 17th, Bohnen joined Williams and the rescued family at the White House, where President Trump recognized the rescue in the Oval Office. Proud of the work our members do both on and off duty. Congratulations, Aaron!

What a great Sunday morning at the Los Gatos Farmers Market! Your Santa Clara County Firefighters were out picking up fresh fruits and vegetables for our firehouse meals, connecting with the community, and we had the honor of running into and catching up with D5 Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga.

Thank you, Supervisor Abe-Koga, for everything you do for District 5 and for always making time to connect with the people you serve — even on a Sunday morning at the market. Your dedication to our communities and your support for public safety do not go unnoticed.

We’re proud to serve alongside leaders like you.

Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga

This morning, members of Santa Clara County Firefighters Local 1165 joined CPF, DVP Vince Wells, and firefighters throughout California in Sacramento to advocate for AB 1383 and policies that strengthen the future of the fire service.

A strong fire service depends on attracting and retaining dedicated professionals who commit their careers to protecting the public. AB 1383 helps support retirement security, recognizes the long-term commitment firefighters make to their communities, and strengthens our ability to recruit and retain the next generation of firefighters.

Meeting with legislators and sharing the realities of our profession is an important part of protecting the benefits, resources, and workforce that public safety depends on. These efforts only succeed when firefighters stay engaged and make their voices heard.

The strength of our union comes from active membership. By staying informed and participating in advocacy efforts, Local 1165 members help ensure that firefighters continue to have a voice in decisions that impact our careers, our families, and the future of the fire service.

Thank you to all those who took time to advocate on behalf of California firefighters.
