Beacon House The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a long-term substance abuse recovery center You can learn more at www.thebeaconhouse.org.

The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a state-certified, residential substance abuse recovery program for men with a sincere desire to achieve long-lasting abstinence from drugs and alcohol. As residents of the Beacon House, the men are provided with food, shelter, counseling, peer group support, educational opportunities and career training through social enterprise programs, including a T

hrift Shop. This allows the men to develop the life, career and social skills they need to build a foundation in recovery, while preparing them for a strong reintegration into the job market and a bright future when they return to their family, home and community. Recently named one of the best addiction treatment centers in the United States by Newsweek Magazine, men from 39 states across the country have received treatment at Beacon House. The organization has grown over the past 50 years to encompass a full city block in San Pedro, California, adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles, including six residential facilities with the capacity to house 110 residents, as well as a kitchen/dining facility. With the support of our donors and the local community, we have helped thousands of men get a second chance at life and regain their place as responsible, productive members of society.

It takes a lot of work to maintain our green spaces at Beacon House.

Luckily, we have a crew of guys who are willing to put in the effort week after week.

It feels good to take care of the place you call home, especially when you can step back and see what you've accomplished as a team.

Thanks for all your hard work, guys!

There’s nothing quite like a night at the ballpark.

A group of our Beacon House men recently headed out to Anaheim to catch an Angels game. For one of the guys, it was actually his first baseball game ever.

One of the great things about recovery is that it opens doors to experiences that might have been missed along the way. And this is just the beginning!

Did you know that when you attend a Beacon House Family & Community Bistro, you’re giving our men an opportunity to be of service? From beginning to end, every part of the evening is brought to life by men in our program who are actively working to build lives rooted in character and principle.

The meal is only one part of what makes the Bistro special. The evening will feature stories from both a current resident and a Beacon House alumnus, offering a glimpse into the journey of recovery and the lasting impact of the program.

We host bistros throughout the year, and seats fill up quickly. Join our mailing list (link below) to stay in the loop for the next bistro announcement.

Recovery has a ripple effect.

It starts with one man learning a new way to live. Over time, the impact of that change reaches his family and friends, the people and organizations around him, and eventually the entire community.

For more than 50 years, we have been part of San Pedro, helping men rebuild their lives while teaching them the importance of giving back to the community that surrounds them.

On this National Nonprofit Day, we’re grateful for everyone who plays a part in keeping those ripples going. We couldn’t do this important work without the support of people like you.

In 2002, David arrived at Beacon House after struggling for years to stay sober. Before he came, he decided to give away his car because he didn’t want anything holding him back from fully committing to the program.

While here, he focused on the things right in front of him: being honest, following directions, helping others, and prayer. Piece by piece, things started to come together.

Life after Beacon House hasn’t been without challenges. But with the foundation he built here, his involvement in AA, and his faith in God, he has remained sober through it all.

David returns to San Pedro regularly to celebrate his sobriety birthday and share his experience, strength, and hope.

Our men have been out in the community recently, connecting with local businesses as we prepare for this year's Heart of Recovery Gala.

They’ve been meeting our neighbors, raising awareness of Beacon House's mission, and inviting business owners to help support this year's silent auction.

Thank you everyone for your continued support!

Martin arrived at Beacon House feeling like a complete failure. For years, his drinking and drug use came before everything else, and the things that mattered most slowly fell away. What hurt most was knowing how much pain he had caused his daughter.

Through the men in our program, Martin learned that staying stuck in self-pity and regret would only hold him back. He couldn’t change the past, but he could start making different choices. Little by little, he began doing the work to rebuild his life and repair his relationship with his daughter.

Today, Martin sees himself very differently. He earned his GED and completed the LA Marathon, but more importantly, he has become a present father in his daughter's life. He knows there is still plenty of work ahead, but now he has hope for the future.

Did you know that every month our residents get to enjoy an alumni panel in the pit?

Each guest shares where he started from, what recovery has looked like for him, and how his life has changed since leaving Beacon House. An open Q&A follows, giving our residents a chance to ask questions and connect with men who were once in their shoes.

These panels offer our men proof that recovery is possible and that it truly works.

There's nothing better than seeing the community come together.

This weekend, the Beacon House Catering team headed over to Toberman Neighborhood Center's Back to School Day. While hundreds of families geared up for the new school year with free backpacks and supplies, our men were hard at work serving up a tasty breakfast throughout the morning.

Thanks for inviting us to be part of such a great event!

Addiction narrows a person's ability to deal with stress. Alcohol and drugs become the default response to discomfort, making healthy problem-solving more difficult over time.

Recovery gives you tools. Instead of reacting impulsively, you learn to pause and think things through. You build friendships with people who help keep you grounded. You begin to recognize what's in your control and what's not.

Recovery doesn't change the fact that life is hard. It changes the fact that you no longer have to run from it.
