🥨 One night, one big purpose. Bids for Kids is back, Oktoberfest style! 🥨

Join us for steins, pretzels, a silent auction, and a live band, we’ll even keep the dance floor open late! 🎉

The Celebration: Doors open at 5:00 PM. Steins are raised, pretzels are passed, and the silent auction opens as the room fills with friends old and new. Bavarian music, a beer garden-inspired experience, and the full Oktoberfest spirit! 🇩🇪

The Purpose: As dinner is served, we will be inducting two Hall of Fame honorees. Willie Naulls, honored posthumously, who went from the San Pedro Boys Club to the heights of professional basketball and never forgot where he started and Gary Herrera, former President of ILWU Local 13, turned his Club kid beginnings into a lifetime of labor and community leadership. Then paddles rise! The live auction and Back-a-Kid appeal then turn one night of celebration into a year of meals, mentors, and open doors for Harbor area youth. 🏆

The Party: Our live band takes the stage, the dance floor opens, and the night rolls into the afterparty. Stay late. You'll be in good company! 💃

What to Wear: Festive cocktail attire or traditional Oktoberfest. Dirndls, lederhosen, and Bavarian-inspired fashion encouraged, but not required.

Purchase your tickets or find out more, Bids for Kids: Oktoberfest is here! 💙

🎉 What a day at the Cheryl Green Clubhouse!

This past August 7th, we celebrated our growing partnership with , and they went ALL out for our Club members and community at Cheryl Green!

Over the past few months, Movement Mortgage has been slowly transforming our Clubhouse into something magical: new books, a reading nook, computers, podcasting equipment, and so much more! 💛💙

They wrapped it all up with a full community celebration, rock painting, face painting, an instant photobooth, basketball, snacks and prizes, and burgers hot off the grill from Movement Mortgage! 🍔
We are also honored to have been joined by the , the , and a representative from the State Bank of India!

To Movement Mortgage and everyone who showed up, volunteered, grilled, painted, and played: THANK YOU. Our Club kids felt the love, and so did the whole community. We can't wait to see where this collaboration goes next.

And one more shoutout, huge thanks to for keeping everyone cool with free snowcones all day! 🍧

🎶 Here's what happened in our music program this summer. 🎶

🤘 🎸Subliminal, our Wilmington Club's modern rock band, closed out the school year in style with an outdoor set at Banning High School. Thank you to Mighty Marching Pilot Band Director Javier Ortiz for making it happen!

🎤 A few days later, Mr. Oscar's Arts Academy students took the stage at the Crowne Plaza for the San Pedro First Thursday Art Walk, performing songs from this semester alongside audience favorites.

And all summer long, music camp has been in session across the Wilmington region, from Banning High to Taper Elementary, with drumline, rock band, keys, and horns at every stop.

The music doesn't stop here. School is back August 12, and our students return to the First Thursday stage on September 3!

Thank you to Jose Gutierrez and our entire Music & Performing Arts staff for a year of showing our members what practice turns into. 🎵

This summer, our Visual Arts Club members spent their time in our six-week Summer Art Program discovering how far their creativity can go! 🎨

Throughout our six-week Summer Art Program, members unleashed their creativity through daily hands-on projects and explored a new artistic theme each week. Throughout the summer, members experimented with painting, sewing, jewelry-making, STEAM-inspired art, special effects makeup, and imaginative crafts created from repurposed materials.

Here are a few of the artists we want you to meet!

🌸 Cynthia, an incoming middle schooler at our San Pedro site, embraced the creative process all summer and earned Member of the Month!

🌸 Zach, spending his first summer at our Harbor City site, jumped into every new challenge, and sharing his finished creations with mom and dad is the highlight of his day!

🌸 Audrey, 10 years old at our Wilmington site, brought an artistic spirit that inspired everyone around her!

Thank you to our art instructors Maya Prieto, Angie Martinez, and Tony De Vine, and to Fine Arts Director Sandra Tovar, for a summer of creativity, learning, and fun!

Want to see the work in person? Our members' art goes on display at the San Pedro Art Walk on September 3 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel!

Ask our members what science feels like and they can tell you: sometimes it floats, sometimes it splashes, and sometimes it survives a two-story drop! 👩‍🔬

That is what happens when Steps to BECTS is in the building teaching our Club members! This growing nonprofit made up of high school students spent the summer at our Cheryl Green Center, bringing hands-on STEM lessons to our members across eight sessions in July.

The aluminum foil boat challenge had members designing, building, and testing their boats. Our Club members learned about buoyancy, density, and water displacement by adding one penny at a time until the hull gave out.

With Oobleck, Steps to BECTS introduced the strange behavior of non-Newtonian fluids. They created candy DNA models, and challenged our members with an egg drop challenge to put all they’ve learned to the ultimate test!

Thank you to Nathan, Jordin, and Aiden for showing our members that science is something you do, not just something you read about! Follow their work at !

What an unforgettable experience! 🕷️❤️

A huge THANK YOU to Fandango and Boys & Girls Clubs of America for giving our youth the incredible opportunity to attend the Spider-Man movie premiere and meet members of the cast!

Our kids are huge Spider-Man fans, and seeing their excitement, smiles, and amazement throughout the day was truly priceless. Experiences like these inspire dreams, create lifelong memories, and remind our youth that anything is possible. ❤️

Thank you for investing in our members and providing them with a once-in-a-lifetime experience they’ll never forget. We are so grateful to be part of this amazing partnership!

Last week we celebrated our Skilled Trades graduates. 🎓🔧👷‍♀️

On Thursday, July 23, the Welding 1, Welding 2, Carpentry 1, and Carpentry 2 classes crossed the stage at AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles ea at their culmination. Each of our graduates of our Skilled Trades were recognized in front of their family, friends, instructors and Club staff who taught and cheered them on all year.

To our graduates: you put in the hours, learned the tools, and earned this moment. and we're so incredibly proud of you!

To the families and supporters who filled the room: thank you for showing up for our youth and teaching us that when community shows up, we can make a difference in their lives.

Thank you as well to our program partner Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, whose support helps put real tools in the hands of Club teens, and to AltaSea for their continued support of this program.

nd to every instructor and staff member who helped train this graduating class: this milestone also belongs to you. 💙👷
