VFP Golden Rule Project

VFP Golden Rule Project Golden Rule Sails for a Nuclear-Free World and a Peaceful, Sustainable Future! "Golden Rule was a character vessel. She had a jaunty rakish look.

The original nuclear protest boat, the Golden Rule, sails again to promote a nuclear free future, to educate about the dangers of radiation to humanity and the environment, and to support peaceful alternatives to war. The Golden Rule Project seeks to educate the public about nuclear, peace and environmental issues and motivate people to take action to protect the people and planet from the ravages

of the nuclear and war-making industries. She was beamy but had a bold sheer ending in an upthrusting bowsprit supported by a clipper bowed billet. She was a ketch, gaff-rigged on the main, her masts raked sharply aft. She had an easy entrance, with enough lift forward, hard bilges and a long flat run...She was a pretty and able little vessel." -Albert Bigelow, "The Voyage of the Golden Rule" 1959

Whether you're curious about sailing, interested in Sea Scouts, or just want to spend time on the waterfront, this is a great chance to connect, learn, and have fun.

📍 Location: Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center
921 Waterfront Drive · Eureka, CA 95501
🕒 Time: Saturday, 10 AM – 2 PM
🌧️ Rain or shine!

We already have 3 participants confirmed and would love to grow the group to 6—bring a friend!

These are seasoned peace practitioners in action.

Humble veterans. Organizers. Listeners. Mentors. People who show up in person and then show up again in planning meetings. People who share what they witness with care and responsibility. People who build relationships that strengthen the long arc toward peace.

We are grateful to Gerry for sharing updates directly with the Golden Rule and Veterans For Peace teams while in Caracas. This is steady leadership. Presence. Communication. Accountability to community.

The next generation learns through their example. Through consistency. Through lived commitment.

There is a restoring energy rising in our world. An energy that nurtures life, protects the vulnerable, and centers human dignity. An energy rooted in care, courage, and continuity.

Peace is possible. And it grows wherever people tend it.

We are deeply grateful to Gerry Condon, Chair of the Golden Rule Committee, for being on the ground in Venezuela with peace delegations and sharing firsthand reports with the Golden Rule and Veterans For Peace teams. His updates, including eyewitness reporting from David Swanson, remind us how close nuclear facilities came to danger during recent military strikes near Caracas, and how essential peace-building work remains.

Today we are honored to share this peace flotilla video featuring two longtime peace leaders, Ann Wright and Medea Benjamin, alongside fishermen and coastal communities in Venezuela’s Caribbean waters. This flotilla sailed in the spirit of nonviolence and international solidarity, even through the threat of militarization.

Watch this uplifting moment of civilian boats coming together for peace and humanity!!!!

Peace is possible.
It’s courageous.
It’s collective.
It’s maritime neighbors standing shoulder to shoulder for life over force.

As the Golden Rule prepares to sail into San Diego this June to continue our witness against nuclear weapons and war, we draw strength from moments like this ... where ordinary peoples’ boats become symbols of peace on the water.

We made the 6pm news. 🌊

Huge thanks to Redwood News for covering our Safety at Sea and Sea Scout recruitment event at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center this weekend. The story highlights our partnership with Sea Scouts, our focus on boating safety and California Boater Card education, and the Golden Rule’s ongoing mission of peace through responsible seamanship.

As we shared on air, the Golden Rule cannot sail for world peace and nuclear disarmament without trained, confident, safety minded crew coming up behind us. Building Sea Scouts in Eureka is part of that future.

After the event, we joined the Humboldt Yacht Club Crab Feed and Annual Awards celebration. Strong maritime community. Strong partnerships. Strong future.

⚓️ From the decks of the Golden Rule to the streets of Minneapolis, Veterans For Peace continues to stand for peace, at home and abroad.

We’re proud to share a powerful article from Gerry Condon, Vietnam-era war resister, chair of the Golden Rule Committee, and recipient of the 2025 U.S. Peace Prize, in the latest Winter 2026 edition of Peace & Planet News.

In this piece, Gerry connects the dots between U.S. wars overseas and the violence playing out in our own cities, highlighting the courageous community resistance in Minneapolis and the veterans who are standing alongside them. He also calls on service members to “Refuse Illegal Orders” and reminds us all that the fight for justice is both local and global.

The print edition is available now! Order copies to share, discuss, and inspire action.

Read the full article below, and join us in building a world rooted in peace, not war.

The racist violence we witnessed in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq have been reproduced in U.S. cities. We are now seeing simultaneous US wars abroad and at home.
