🧡 SWEET DUMPLING 🧡

How it started vs. How it’s going ➡️

Sweet Dumpling was born at Big Barn on May 23rd and she’s still living at the shelter. It’s truly no place for a puppy to grow up. She deserves a forever home and a foster home in the meantime.

This girl is full of life. When she’s at events or out on field trips she bounces around and has to say hello to everyone. She loves playing with her siblings, going for walks, and snuggling up to volunteers. She’s got legs for days and uses them to zoom around and be goofy. Consider applying to foster or adopt her by visiting our website. Her adoption fee is waived for the entire month of October.

🧡 THANK YOU RUNNERS 🧡

We could not be more proud of what our 2026 Chicago Marathon team accomplished yesterday. They endured the heat and ran 26.2 miles for ALIVE Rescue while raising $175,000 and counting. Because of their commitment, we will be able to save so many more lives. THANK YOU!!!

🧡 SENDING GRATITUDE TO OUR 2026 CHICAGO MARATHON TEAM 🧡

Last night we hosted our 2026 Chicago Marathon team at pizza lobo for our team dinner. In all, ALIVE Rescue has 88 runners on the team this year (WOW!!!). They have been working so hard since last year to reach their fundraising goals and we could not be more grateful. Without them ALIVE Rescue would not exist.

We will be cheering each and every one of you on tomorrow from the 23 and 24-mile mark. We could not be more proud.

🧡 MEET GIGI 🧡

It’s rare that we know an animal’s history prior to rescuing them. Typically, we are saving dogs from high-kill shelters who were found as strays, and their story remains their own. We can only guess the hardships they endured.

That’s not the case with Gigi.
We know her story.
She was loved.
A lot.

A few weeks back, an unhoused person came to Big Barn in need of help. We listened to their story, felt their pain, and knew we could not turn them away.

Gigi’s person was experiencing a string of bad luck and had lost their job, which forced them to move into their car. Because of this, it was difficult to find work, as they refused to leave Gigi in the car all day long. They felt she deserved more.

We offered to take her in for a few months while her person got back on their feet, but ultimately, the decision was made that a permanent goodbye would be the best decision.

Gigi had been with this person 24/7 since she was a puppy. She was well taken care of, and she was the light in this person’s life. They loved her enough to let her go.

This girl is now looking for a foster and/or forever home. Since she’s only nine months old, you can expect a long and happy life with her. She’s AMAZING with other dogs! Super playful and polite, she’s loving and knows how to snuggle. She would make a great adventure buddy. She’s great in the car and is used to experiencing life on the go.

🧡 MEET REMUS 🧡

The first thing we noticed about Remus when we met him at Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control was how gentle he was. We gave him a treat and he slowly took it from us. All 90+ pounds of him. An hour later he was loaded up in our vehicle and heading to Big Barn.

This dude is perfection. Well, almost perfect. On a recent field trip his handler mentioned he sat backwards in the car so he may need more practice with that. 😂 He’s amazing on leash and will walk right next to you the entire time. He loves greeting ALL the people. He’s goofy with a small amount of shy on the side. Other dogs don’t seem to phase him. He’s a dream.

Remus is currently living at the shelter. We would love to find him a foster until his forever home comes along. Once he goes to foster, we can save another dog. Visit our website to apply.

🧡 FREE TO A GOOD HOME 🧡

October is Pit Bull Awareness month and ALIVE Rescue is celebrating by waiving all adoption fees for our pittie babes. Not only that, we will also be sponsoring their training classes once adopted.

We have so many incredible dogs waiting for their forever homes and we are hoping this campaign will help shed some light on them. Many are dog and kid friendly as well!

Nova - Living in a foster home with a toddler. Loves other dogs. Has the cutest pouty lip.

Merlin - He’s seven months old and would love a home with another dog so he can thrive.

Randy - He was adopted from ALIVE Rescue, but was returned after BOTH his parents passed away. He’s been living in a foster home ever since. He’s a chill “senior” at seven years of age.

Philly - This girl has lived at the shelter for over THREE YEARS!!! She’s currently four years old which means she’s spent almost her entire life in the shelter. 😢 It’s time she found her forever.

Mabel - Our goofy girl wants a family all to herself. She’s an introvert for life so no other dogs or cats.

🧡 MEET TRUVY 🧡

Truvy was found as a stray by our friends at Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control before coming to ALIVE Rescue. She’s now waiting at Big Barn for a foster/forever home.

Eyebrows for days.
As goofy as they come.
A heart of gold.

Give this girl a squeaky toy and she’ll keep herself entertained for hours. She’s great on leash, perfection in the car, loves everyone she meets, good with other dogs, and has the best smile in town.

We took one look at that meowstache and said “you’re coming with us” during our last trip to Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control.

🧡 WALKS & WAGS - THANK YOU 🧡

We had a blast over the weekend hosting some of our Walks & Wags participants at Big Barn for the group walk. They each committed to walking one mile per day with their pups for ALIVE Rescue during the month of September and they have already walked over 500 miles!
