Behind every appointment is a person. Someone like Bertha.
When Bertha found TCHP a year and a half ago, she was tired all the time, often sick, and had gone more than a year without diabetes medication. She also hadn’t seen a dentist in eight years because she couldn’t afford the care she needed.
Today, her diabetes is managed with medication and regular visits with her care team. She has more energy, gets sick less often, and receives regular dental care.
When Bertha recently came to TCHP with severe abdominal pain, her volunteer clinician recognized that she needed emergency care. She was hospitalized and underwent an appendectomy. Now, our Patient Advocacy Manager is helping her apply for financial assistance with the cost of her surgery.
“If I hadn’t found TCHP, to be honest I don’t know what I would do. I don’t have insurance or the money to pay for services. Thank God for you.”
Bertha is one of many working people in our community whose jobs do not provide health insurance or other benefits. Many work multiple jobs to support themselves and their families.
