Our Mother's Stewards: because being stewards of our environment is essential and fun. A passion project that connects and improves our community.

Founded as a way to constructively honor my mother Dawn, after her passing. These events were created as a positive way to cope with the anniversary of my mother's death in 2011. She passed away suddenly the day after Mother's Day. In an attempt to combine my passion of environmental stewardship, bring the community together and improve mental health practices surrounding grief, these events were organized. The events have been renamed several times and finally the not for profit organization was formed as "Our Mother's Stewards" to coincide the events around Mother's Day, incorporate OUR Mother earth, and the word stewards since we are the care takers of mother earth, as well as its similarity to my mother's maiden name of Stewart. We look forward to seeing you out for another great event for the whole family that improves the areas where we all live and where ever you may live. The efforts have expanded to not only include St. Johns County Florida but all locations needing some improvements. We would like to thank Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii for donating gloves and trash pickers to use at our beach cleanup tomorrow!

Being able to collaborate with other local environmental stewardship organizations is a huge help.

Re-usable resources are combined and used for a central goal of helping keeping Mother Nature a cleaner safer place to live for all beings.

"Inspired by our good friends Sustainable Coastlines in Aotearoa, we decided to take keeping our beaches clean into our own hands while making the work fun. What we’ve learned along the way is that cleanups can only do so much. We now utilize our cleanups to inspire better consumer behaviors and continued coastal stewardship through cleanups, education, social media, and more.

We are run by a growing team of full time staff, interns, and a large team of dedicated volunteers. Want to get involved in our core team? Show up at our next cleanup, introduce yourselves and show the extra effort. We’re always looking to grow our team.

People who run events know the struggle of getting permits ...

A year's worth of correspondence, and approval over a month ago, followed by radio silence and so much confusion and convoluted barriers along the way...We finally have in hand a permit to run our beach cleanup for this Saturday!

YES, many areas require a permit to organize events that help clean up areas and some are NOT free, even for an environmental stewardship non-profit organization. Counter intuitive much?

So glad to have this item checked off!

Much appreciative to the helpful personnel at the Oahu P&R in their efforts to help us circumvent and abide by the red tape.
