Russell's own Max Evans has been named as the Kansas 3A Baseball Player of the Year!

Russell is proud of you, MAX! We will continue cheering you on into your college baseball career!

2026 Sports in Kansas 3A Baseball Player of the Year

Max Evans, Russell/Victoria, Sr.

No player in Class 3A had a more dominant two-way season in 2026 than Russell-Victoria senior Max Evans. The Butler Community College signee powered the Broncos to a 24-7 season and a fourth-place finish at the Class 3A State Tournament while proving to be one of the stateโ€™s most complete players.

At the plate, Evans was a nightmare matchup for opposing pitchers. He hit an incredible .615 while posting a .689 on-base percentage and a 1.668 OPS. He collected 59 hits, including 21 doubles, four triples and two home runs while driving in 47 runs and scoring 38 more. His ability to consistently reach base, create extra-base damage and produce runs made him one of the most dangerous hitters in Kansas regardless of classification.

On the mound, Evans was equally dominant. In 59.1 innings, he compiled a 6-0 record with a sparkling 1.18 ERA and 0.826 WHIP. He struck out 97 batters while limiting opponents to a .148 batting average, consistently shutting down opposing lineups as Russell-Victoriaโ€™s ace.

Whether it was carrying the Broncos offensively, dominating on the mound or leading his team to the final weekend of the season, Evans impacted games in every possible way. His elite production on both sides of the ball made him the choice as the 2026 Sports in Kansas Class 3A Player of the Year.

The Butler Community College signee leaves Russell/Victoria after one of the most impressive all-around seasons by any Kansas player this spring and one of the finest two-way campaigns in Class 3A in recent memory.

What a season โ€” Kinsey Zorn is unstoppable! ๐Ÿ”ฅ Back-to-back State Wrestling Champion and now consecutive topโ€‘2 finishes in the 800m at State Track (state champ last year). Bronco pride through and through!

Huge shoutout to our Broncos at the KSHSAA State Track Championships (Class 3A):

- Macy Patterson โ€” fought hard for 16th in shot put and a powerful 4th in discus ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฅˆ

- Kinsey Zorn โ€” blazing to 8th in the 400m and an outstanding 2nd in the 800m ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ†

- 4x800m relay (Averie Counts, Tessa Hettinger, Madison Wieger, Kinsey Zorn) โ€” teamwork earned a solid 10th place ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ”ฅ

- Ian Strobel โ€” strong effort for 10th in discus ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Track season is over โ€” that wraps up 2025โ€“2026 school sports โ€” but the Broncos are already looking ahead. With senior Madison Wieger moving on, coaches and returning athletes are already eyeing who will step into her spot in the 4x800. The team is hungry to return to State yet again and fight for the podium. Bronco pride never quits!

Proud of every Bronco who competed โ€” grit, heart, and Bronco pride on full display.

Special recognition to the athletes who took the trip to State: Macy Patterson, Kinsey Zorn, Averie Counts, Tessa Hettinger, Madison Wieger, and Ian Strobel โ€” your performances and dedication represented Russell well. Thank you to the coaches, alternates, parents, and fans who contributed to their success and supported them throughout this season.
